Can anyone explain why the price of crude has jumped, and then the end product purchased some time ago for the lower price at that time has suddenly jumped in price too?

To the layman, it would appear to be profiteering off the Ukrainian crisis?

I think you explained it already.

This has historically always happened though.  Prices jump up rapidly when overseas prices change but are slow to reduce with the excuse being that the fuel in the tanks is the higher priced stock.

Frustrating but other than trying to reduce your own usage, what can you do?

over 400 nissan leafs on trademe...

https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/motors/cars/nissan/leaf

A Leaf is great if your commute is small and you can afford one (not everyone can just drop money on a car). Lack of range and poor design means within a very short period I wouldn't be able to get to work and back with a 110km daily commute.

EDIT: Looking at what's available is even more woeful with anything cheap having a sub 100km range.

The BNPL crowd were looking at bars and restaurants as their next big push... they might want to pivot towards fuel if the war continues for more months...

That is a horrible prospect. BNPL is already a curse on society but when it starts being used to pay recurring essentials with a close cycle it is a recipe for disaster.

This is one of those times where I don't give a hoot "If you a have a business to run" but to deliberately profit off the mass slaughter of civilians puts you in a special class of human being.

If any servo owners read this: You sir/madame are a pathetic greedy coward.

There are very view privately owned service stations the vast majority are corporate owned.

The BP 2Go sites might be privately owned, but I'm not 100% sure on that.

For Northern Suburbs Wellington people, NPD are setting up a site in Porirua. It's going to be outside Repco at the Porirua mega centre

Government - helps

Internet - but but but!!

I mean it's the truth, the rebate was worth 10% of the value of a 30kwh Leaf and now it's worth less than that because the price went up but the rebate didn't scale with it.

You can write this off as 'but but but' but as someone who is spending $150 a fortnight to run a fuel efficient ICE, and trying to save for an EV to replace it, it's getting pretty difficult to make any real headway once all the other cost of living increases are factored in.

Very well said.

*Sigh*.. I fuel up at NPD as it's about as Kiwi owned as it gets (as I understand, please correct me if I am wrong).

Did the COMCOM's report actually help prices at all does anyone know?

I bought 800L via Share Tank since the start of the Russian invasion so I am all set for the year irrespective of prices. I suggest everyone to do the same as it will go higher and higher.

This has probably already been mentioned somewhere in this thread.... but how is our government so out of touch with reality? It's like they are operating in an alternate universe somehow, where they are beholden to only Greta.

Stopping all new oil exploration, closing our refinery, making us totally reliant on oil from overseas....I believe we could be fully self sufficient in that regard if they didn't have their heads so far up their ..... that they could actually see & reason like normal humans. Clean and green yada yada yada, the need for oil isn't going away anytime soon. Oh, no problem, we'll just import it, and coal too, that's much better for the environment, of course. 😡

I remember National saying they would reverse that ban - not sure if that is still the case, but with Marsden Point now being closed, what's even the point?

It just boggles the mind. The Green party (and seemingly Labour) are totally ....ing this country and there doesn't seem to be any end to it. Makes my blood boil just thinking about it.

Anyway. Sorry about that. Rant over haha. 😑

It's NZRC who own marsden point and want to close it. No need to blame that on 'the gummint'.
