I would say Onzo costs are way lower than Lime.

More specifically an onzo bike has a longer life expectancy than a lime scooter (I would think by a factor of at least 10x) and there's no need to pay juicers to collect and charge them.

I would suggest that if your usage is high and your rental cost is unacceptable you would probably be better off financially by buying your own scooter.

Yeah that's the issue with Lime. They're great if you're going a reasonable distance where a few bucks makes sense, but to go a few blocks it adds up quickly when its $1 + 38c per minute. The other day I had to do a few trips around the CBD (was time poor so Lime was best option) and my cost at the end of the day was $12+, half of which was unlocks. Looking forward to seeing the new entrants in Chch! Hopefully gives Lime a bump in the right direction.

"Time poor so Lime was best option" - you are paying for the convenience. The alternatives are probably taxis, Uber or your own car. Compare costs and draw conclusions.

Agreed. Happy to pay for convenience, but my concern is that they are pricing themselves out of the convenience market. When I looked back objectively the cost did not merit the benefit and I won't be using them in the future in similar circumstances. Personal choice I guess.

The death of a Lime scooter user last night in Auckland is certainly a really unfortunate event, but it's still disappointing (and yet completely not surprising) to read Christine Fletcher has "said they [all Lime scooters] should be removed until the outcome of a coroner's investigation into the man's death".

Thank god that woman is no longer involved in national politics, given her propensity for such over-reactions; she's certainly on the war-path when it comes to e-scooters...

I see that the talkback radio has been going headless chicken over this today along with the rest of the media. Until we know how he died can't blame the scooter. May have been medical.

So true, its embarrassing to read all this. Medical event, drunk, slipped and was unlucky to hit head on concrete. The same things that can happen on foot. Even if he was riding carelessly that could have been on another eScooter, manual scooter, bicycle, motorcycle, car

What about beds? People die in those all the time. They must need to be banned also. :-/

It's just typical kneejerk reactionary sound bites to get attention. I think it's highly unlikely the scooter itself is at fault. Possible, but unlikely. Head vs footpath from standing height is sufficient to cause irreparable damage, let alone from a scooter/skateboard/e-scooter/bike etc.

Travelling in Europe I found Lime in Budapest and Vienna - hired one in Budapest but the crowd and cobbles made it a very short trip before I decided it was easier to just walk - cost was 250FT to unlock (roughly $1.32NZ) + 50FT a minute. In Vienna it was 1 Euro to unlock - but there were at least 5 other companies in Vienna to choose from and the other scooters looked better than Lime.

I was surprised that Lime in Dunedin didn't take a break over winter ...

So essentially, nothing at all to do with a scooter, other than being in the vicinity of one at the time of a medical event. Typically attention grabbing Councillors going after headlines and sensationalism to *BAN SCOOTERS* because someone died near one. Wonder if Christine feels in any way sheepish now?

Well, the Limes have been rolled out into Hamilton (at last). They've been on the roads since Friday and so far there's one broken leg and several underwater scooters.
