Honda had the power plant turned down to 50% I think. They only have 4 engines for the season, so they cannot afford to run it higher in case it blows. And Alonsos car blew in the lap they do a half hour before start time when they leave the pits, to line up on the grid. It may well be quite a good car, but until they sort the tight packaging, they can't run it in race trim. RBR is another, the software affects drivability, so whatever pace they have, they can;t use it, cos the throttle acted like this on the corner, then different the next. So, another year of a two driver title, hardly has any value now driver wise, but certainly ups to Mercedes for nailing the car

that's barely 20%. jensen said 30% himself. i guess the honda isn't as powerful as the merc that makes upwards of 700hp, rumour has it that is breaks 800hp.

you cannot run at 50% and only be lapped twice in 58 laps. more like lapped every 4-5 laps. or even every 2 laps maybe.

Thats what was said, Brundle I think. The engine is one component the ERS is the other, the ERS is around 160HP, something like that. The 50% down they say they are running on that I heard, would mean engine, not ERS.

Googling, all sorts of numbers. Running at 35-40% capacity, down 40%, running at 50% or 70%. They were running in fule saving mode as well.
So after all thata lot of numbers thrown around, as to if any came from McLaren, hard to know.

As to know how much pace they have, thats impossble to know. When its running a race pace, and they can turn it up for short periods, and the software is optimised, that will eb interesting. It seems its only a heat issue, not a raft of different issues. I hope RBR can grab a bit of speed to, that will happen once software is fixed.

car development is engineer AND driver. without vettel, it's up to ricciardo. i don't know how good he will be at helping RBR development, without the ace.

Fully agree. Although the issue right now is the software, its not workling correctly. The behaviour of the throttle and brake is inconsistent, what it did last corner may not be what it does next corner, so impossible to drive the car out. To try and get some form of enjoyment this seasion, if RBR can fix the software, and that leaves them and Ferrari and Williams fighting every week, that 6 car race will be worth the admission

I tried to watch the weekend racing but generally found it boring, a follow the leader parade around the track. I used to love Formula One but now prefer V8 Supercars and Touring car racing.

Must say this just isn't working, on multiple levels.

Some fundamentals really need addressing, a real soul search if you will.  Some terms just need attention.

Racing = covering a distance as fast as you can.  With the limited fuel, we're seeing large sections dedicated to coasting around.

Slipstream = used to be this cool maneuverer you saw, with the lead car smashing a hole in the air and the trailing cars tucking in.  Now it's 'dirty air', 'can't live there for long without overheating' etc

Engine Development Freeze / Tokens = Keeps the winning team at the top.  Good for them, good reward for their technical developments, but punishes all the other teams for 3 years.

eco does not equal race.  Save money on the teams transport to the track for instance, but putting eco into race just doesn't sit right.

Noise/spirit etc.  V12's had a certain sound about them.  Today seemed better than last year, but still along the lines of a low frequency growling lawn mower.

Don't know about others, but from comments I've read on the likes of the James Allen website, there are a lot of dedicated fans really questioning why they are staying now.
When the warm up races sound better and have more exciting action, you know you've got some work to do...

Good points.  And....

Seeing the World Drivers Championship down to two people. The the comments how hard the race was, blah, blah.
When will racing to tught and close? Soin, when all the teams get a handlie on the cars and rules. Then they will change the rules and get new engines...
Boring? I knwo boring, the Schumacher days were boring and processional. Within the current artifically managed F1 circus with 20,000 rules, there are and will be some good racing, but that will probbaly be 5 or 6 cars dicing every lap, not 24, or 14, or 8
Its not Hamiltons fault but how can anyone compare his 3 titles, when two of them were 2 horse races?

all about money mate.

when the minimum spend to stay alive in F1 is 1 million pounds a week - not even being competitive, you have a to have a real reason to stay in the game.

the reason is Bernie's promise of money. he makes countries pay him (ok, his company) nearly a 100 mil to host the F1. then other people pay him eg tv rights etc. the money is distributed to the ferraris and the lewis hamiltons ... there is probably a bit left over for the minnows but they have to earn the right to get a slice of the pie.

if all the money goes down the "R&D" drain even Bernie's millions can't cover that. so he has weird ploys like ECO, FUEL SAVING, TURBO, KERS etc to try to con people to pay him money ...

is it working? who knows. he's nearly 100 years old and he seems to know how to make money faster than Warren Buffet can say Hi ... let's see
