Dingbatt: Saw my first Tivoli out in the wild only yesterday. Can't say I was particularly inspired. In fact the part of the TV advert in which one of the brainstorming team says "it has four wheels" is probably the most apt descriptor.
Already you appear to be suffering the inevitable bracket creep, where wanting to spend mid 20s becomes low 30s. Many car sales businesses have now zeroed their sales targets for the new year. So unless you are looking to buy a MY2015 new vehicle there may not be much interest in bargaining from their perspective.

Isn't this company part owned by an Indian car company? So I wonder if they are part built in India. Personally I would rather buy a second hand premium brand for the same price, especially if keeping it for many years. Toyota rav4 or something like that will likely last for many years. My parents have a 10 year old one, the previous generation and it is as good as new and never had any problems, and built in Japan.

Many leading brands are constructed in India also Thailand, Belgium, China....... makes no difference they are built to the same standard. India for example makes some very good heavy vehicles, Trains etc and gas a very good auto industry in general.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

wasabi2k: 23.5 got me a 2011 Mitsubishi Outlander with under 100k on it - 3L V6.

Equivalent Highlander (which is getting mighty close to full big 4wd and with nicer options) was roughly 35k.

Do you want a big SUV or a little SUV? What is it being used for?

The 1.6  l engine is about the right size for us- so a small SUV I suppose

Have you looked at the new Suzuki range?

Also - the Holden Trax - similar small SUV-style vehicle.

Don't know what the pricing is like though.

What did you think? I had a friend who had one as a work vehicle and he raved about it, but I can never trust his opinion as he's an idiot.

Went for a test drive in a Suzuki Vitara Ltd yesterday and so far this is my favourite. Looking at a Nissan Qashqai today. You get as lot for the money in the Vitara

I really liked the Qashqai and almost bought one, the all-round camera on the top spec Ti is very nice (and probably would have stopped my wife putting curb-rash on the rims of our new car) although I thought some of the interior fit and finish was a bit cheap compared to the Kia. If you go for the Nissan you'll want to look into the reliability of the CVT, I know that the one in the Pathfinder has lots of problems so I'm not sure if the Qashqai has the same issues.

You're right about the Vitara - it's a great car. If you want one with more power a 1.4L turbo model is coming out this year (Q1 or Q2, not sure), it has 17kW more power and 64Nm more torque.

Yes a few people have commented on the CVT. Apparently they are belts and Pulleys so not surprised they could fail!!

Well we pick up our new car today at lunchtime.

Ended up getting a Suzuki Vitara Ltd.

Paying a bit more than we originally had budgeted for but worth it.

I bought a Vitara AllGrip LTD just before xmas, was tossing up between that and the S-Cross.  Very happy I got the Vitara, just love it.

Great choice :)

Forgot to ask - 2WD or 4WD, and what colour(s)?

I'd be interested to hear what you think of CarPlay too.

I have the Carplay and it's really good. Getting a txt message and having it read out to you is awesome.  Apple Maps is actually better than the built in nav system.  Only issue is having to plug into a cable, bit of a pain, wish they supported Carplay via bluetooth.

It seems bizarre that you think of it as an SUV. It is in the same class with Mazda Demio, Ford Focus, etc.

I don't know - the NZ SsangYong website shows the Tivoli as actually quite a large vehicle - see http://www.ssangyong.co.nz/tivoli/.

(Seriously though, is it just my browser that shows such a farcically distorted [and poor-quality] image? If it's the same for all that's a terribly bad look having such a stuff-up on the dealer's website.)

Nope, it isn't just your browser, the image is terrible for a dealers site.

They look fine in Opera 37..

It looks like they've updated the images.
