Semi related topic: just wondering if anyone new where allied petroleum source their fuel from? A self serve pump just popped up here recently. Also waitomo fuel?

they can further reduce the price of petrol if they dump the whole smartfuel/supermarket revenue sharing schemes.

hence why I think waitomo/allied prices aren't unreasonable if they didn't have huge IT projects costing them loads and then need to market them etc.

Without a lab, I think the only test would be economy, but as every day/week the driving is different I don't think you'd get a meaningful result.

I did a comparison over many months with BP 91, 98 and Gull 98 to find before my car was tuned none of them made a difference. After it was tuned there was also no economy difference between BP and Gull, just the massive price per litre difference.

Hi all,

You often see variation in prices of 91 petrol across BP stations in your region, but does that same variation apply to their Ultimate 98 product? When out and about I tend to go to the station that has a good 91 price and fill up with 98, but I'm starting to wonder if the 98 price is fixed across all stations? Has anyone noticed this before or even completed a little research into the subject? In other words, is it worth shopping around for prices of 98?

Please note that this post is not intended to spark a 91 v 98 debate :-).

Data point -> 98 at the BP in Greenlane on Great South Road (south of Greenlane East) is 225.9 / L.

It can go 750km+ on a full tank....I've driven it Auckland to Kaitaia (320km)...around Kaitaia / Ahipara....and back to Auckland and still had just under a quarter of a tank.

I've got a 2014 Ford Focus Sport and I've been using BP 98 for the past few months to try it out. Personally I feel like I've had worse fuel economy with BP 98. I've just done my last fill a few days ago as I had 36c off accumulated, then I'm going back to what I was using before, Mobil 95.

It says at least 95......and so I put in 98. It hasn't blown up yet.....

Wait, what??? Your 98 is E10 in some places?

E10 here is 94-95 octane and cheaper than 91 normally, by a couple of cents (Current 91 price is $1.24 but we pay nearly $1000 per year in rego so don't complain).

95 is 10-12c more and 98 is 9-10 cents more than that.

I notice the difference between E10, 91 and 95 in my car... It uses a lot more E10 and 91 and feels sluggish compared to 95 (and the computer confirms fuel economy is worse).

The difference between 95 and 98 is unnoticeable and not worth me paying the extra for.

Most servos that sell E10 only sell that, 91 or 98. If they don't have E10, they sell 91, 95 and 98.

If I had a choice of E10 and 91, I'll use E10, if there was E10 and 95, I'd use 95.

Quite annoying if you're in an unfamiliar area, pull up and have to buy E10 instead of 95.

Funnily enough, when I had my Ducati in NZ, it hated anything over 91.

My Renault is only happy with 95 or 98, and I tend to fill up 98 at BP as they generally do not have 95 and I like using my AA smartfuel discount. Never really bothered looking at the price either, I know it's pricy but that's part of life when driving a Euro import. I found Z stations offer 95 in most places and that will be my 2nd place to go to due to Airpoints $$ :)

Are you saying that all fuel with ethanol is crap, or just mobil's one in particular?
Any reason for thinking that?
