Aesthetics have to do with how our brains react to certain forms. An EV does not have to look like a 1957 Ford. Different people will see different things in different forms, and rightly so. But there is broad agreement on the forms that are pleasing, the ones that are challenging, and the ones that are hopeless. Tesla cars have nice shapes and generally look appealing. the Rivian has a truly ugly front end and no normal human being would ever want to be seen in one. This is not a matter of taste. It is a matter of reacting with horror when a crocodile tries to eat you. Just because something looks radically different does not mean you should want to be near it.

The thing with EV manufacturers is they've actually got a chance to re-invent the wheel (in a way) with a ground up build without the need of a dinosaur fuel engine or anything like that. The other problem with EV manufacturers is the fact they often re-use the shell of a dinosaur fuel vehicle to enter the EV market or the software the car runs is just ripped out from cars that run on dinosaur fuel with added features because it is an EV (think - Ford with their new mustang which for some reason lists all gas stations still on the map inside the car).

Just because a car has been that way forever in terms of design doesn't mean it has to stay like that. That is personally why I drive a Tesla (and not another EV) and think the Cybertruck is awesome looking but many others would even think they all look like EV's. With any car, you either love them or hate them and I for one also love the Rivian for trying to re-invent the Ute.

There will be a tipping point just like the iPhone back in 2007 where everyone will agree on a standard design and things will move on from there. Rivian and Tesla may not have this mastered yet but there is still plenty of innovation to be had and I fully support companies trying different things that may well be jarring.

Yeah but its just the engine. Make a nice car, and use an EV not an ICE

Really? Tastes obviously differ. I really like the look of the Rivian ute and SUV. :-)

You like everything with an EV power train in it 😜

Interesting.  I like the look of the Model S (from a distance), but not the other Tesla's.  I think the front end of the Rivian just needs bullbars and few LED spot lights.  I currently drive a Pajero, which is an ugly vehicle but it does stuff.

I'd probably buy a Rivian, for the functionality.  It's the first EV I've seen that could tow the boat up a farm track and then beach launch it.  I like the way they've utilised all of the space that an electric drive train liberates.
