That is not OK. He needs to be aware that the decision he made was not OK.
Telling him someone else disagreed with him, and you want it replaced doesn't tell me he won't make the same decision next time to the next customer.
xpd:Hah that sounds familiar. About 15yrs ago a Hamilton mechanic failed my Subaru after noticing oil on the ground underneath the engine bay.
VTNZ are generally failed/retired mechanics - I don't trust them for actual advice at all.
Even took a car into them once with no bumper, and said I know its gonna fail but just checking if anything else wrong. They came out "we had to fail you because you've got no bumper" - no **** sherlock, thats what I said at the start.
Also failed me because that there was some oil on the engine. I thought cars used oil and an engine was a common place to find it...... took it elsewhere (after fixing bumper) and passed no issues or comments on the oil.
Also failed me for my Subaru front spoiler - "its not attached to the body" - right.... so whats holding it on then, magic pixie dust ?
Muppets.
When I questioned him asking how leaking oil could possibly be a safety hazard his response was "well I don't know where it's coming from". I cheerfully replied "it's most likely coming from the engine" (heavy sarcasm) and left. Took it to another mechanic who passed it no problem. Ironically the BMW has never failed a WoF even though like all E39's it leaks like a sieve around the rocker cover & sump.
nevermind tyre fitters and mechanics, i have had a lawyer stuffing me up until and got another one that knows what they're doing. it's just life unfortunately.

Yep good spotting... shoulder wear is mostly due to the 3rd world roads we have up here in Northland, also they've done 45,000K ..
I have another pair of PS4's waiting to go on...if only I could find that elusive lock nut.... lol
Old habits something something... Sounds about right, Manawatu is about the same. 45k is a good turn though.
PS4s are the sh!t; I was tossing up between those and the Primacy's, ended up going for the latter since it had a slightly harder compound because aforementioned crappy roads. 30k later and they are only about half-worn.
Lock nut? Don't you mean the hissing blue spanner of doom?
45k from ps4 is great mileage
i'll be lucky to see a third of that from my cup2's
ps4s next
:)
