If the Y isn't here till end of 2021, then any e-Wagon isn't going to be here for a long time.

Audi e-tron is more wagon shaped than SUV.

Looks like ICE for me this time around. It's a shame, I'd really like to go EV, but the Y isn't practical enough compared to a wagon. I am going to guess they also won't be magically overcoming the physics of a higher center of gravity with all the downsides of that.

EVs famously have a much lower center of gravity due to the batteries (usually) being in the floor of the vehilce. There is a video showing attempts to roll a Model X using a soil trip and being unable to.

Is it cargo capacity that is the issue? The Model Y is rated at 1800L of cargo capacity...a Ford Mondeo wagon by comparison has a max cargo space of around 1600L

Mmm I'm very tempted to put down a deposit when orders open.
The boot is the big draw for me.
Boot worries are the only thing holding me back from M3.
Having said that I will try to borrow a colleagues m3 and see how suitcase loading goes..

'Good size' is relative depending on need!

The 3's boot size means it's not a suitable option for me (would have to take all our cr@p when we go on holiday, for example), but the apparently considerably larger boot of the Y means that could well be a goer.

I read "15 cubic feet of cargo space" vs 65 for the 3 vs Y, but assume the latter includes the back with the seats down?

Has anyone got real-world figures of actual boot (and froot, I guess) capacity, ie what the Y will take when the back seats are up and in use?

You'll see a heap of info on the Y soon, way before you need to worry about (or probably can) ordering

Tesla earnings call has revealed first deliveries March 2020. Still not available for order in NZ. RWD gone?

I wouldn't expect them to be here until mid next year at the earliest. We won't get them until all config are available in the US.

The SR RWD version will probably be arriving in the US late this year...I'd be surprised if the LR RWD ever gets made. I'll be doubly surprised if it makes it here since that version of the Model 3 never did

Going by reports across the ditch, it is quite possible that the Model Y may finally get a release in NZ sometime soon (fingers crossed).

With that in mind, I thought it could be useful to unlock this thread so MY-specific posts can be posted here.

As posted last week:

Dingbatt:

I am putting this here rather than the Model 3 thread (maybe that needs to be changed to a ‘Tesla’ thread instead?).

Australian pricing announced* (according to Chasing Cars, at least) for the Model Y.

The standard range 2wd and performance models $AUD$68K and $AUD98K respectively (+ORCs).

https://www.chasingcars.com.au/news/new-car-prices/tesla-model-y-australian-pricing-revealed-for-electric-suv-exclusive/

So there is a chance  the 2wd will sneak in below the magic number.

* Edit: Note this is a leak (now that I have read into it further) but it does provide hope for those holding out for a sub $80K MY.

And, in more recent news, I came across this:

Today [Sunday 10 Apr], a Whirlpool user claims they were actually able to order one today, if that is true, and the order stands, this would be the first Model Y sold in Australia.

At 3:19PM this afternoon, user allenhori posted on the Whirlpool forum the following screenshot. They claim that this is the email received after placing the first Model Y order in Australia. He went on to confirm that the A$350 order fee was indeed debited from his bank account.

The Model Y order includes a picture of the car, black in colour with the 19″ Gemini Wheels. Below the vehicle image and the statement ‘Thank You, Your Model Y Order is Confirmed’,

https://techau.com.au/whirlpool-user-claims-to-have-been-able-to-order-australias-first-tesla-model-y/

I've texted the Tesla employee in Wgtn who managed my test drive of an M3 just in case he has anything he can share, but I really doubt it...

Tesla is a bit like Apple. Their employees aren't likely to tell you anything ahead of it being publicly announced.

Common MO in tech companies in particular as they try to avoid losing/delaying sales due to the Osborne Effect

If it is like Apple then the customer facing staff may get a briefing about 2 days before the announcement and info packs so they can answer questions. They will be sworn to secrecy under pain of death, well the death of their employment at least.

In my experience of Tesla in NZ, your best resource is online. I would expect if you ticked the “I’m interested” checkbox on the Model Y page then you’ll get an email on or around launch day.

My own experience of submitting queries via their website doesn’t fill me with confidence, given I didn’t receive a reply to a single one. (It shows how much I’m keen on the car, as there’s little I love about the company and yet I’m still wanting one…)

The Tesla guy in Wgtn did say at the time he’d directly advise those who had expressed an interest to him so here’s hoping, but yeah I also assume it’ll be via reading it on the web (back to daily searches for me!

Yes. That post you're quoting was posted just over a week after I picked up my Model 3 at the end of 2019 😉 It is something I've had to deal with since then...but as you say, has been fixed in later builds.
