jfanning:

Nokia is still a very large company, why do people still judge them on a business unit they sold?

I had "mobile phones" typed out, and decided to delete it.

Yes their other divisions are still trucking on, I felt what happened was significant enough not split out that business unit.

Company went from cira 50% of the smartphone market in 2008, to less than 5% in 2013.

Staff numbers went from 132,000 in 2010, to 55,400 in 2014.

This was a massive upheaval.

I haven't checked on the scale, but a comparative automotive example might be Honda stopping most of it's car production, but still going strong in other area's (motorcycles, ATV's, Power equipment like generators, small engines, outboard engines for boats, Aircraft etc.)

Potentially still a viable and large company, but a massive change in their operations.

EV's  are cars with a different powertrain, not that radically different.

And this view is why they will fail

so you think they will fail while Elon thinks Tesla could go bankrupt

who should we believe?

The two don't have to be exclusive?

Tesla literally has no debt and the best capital efficiency plus highest margins.

But they are also spending a lot on growth.

There's potential for that to go wrong, Elon is often a pessimist on this but he's been through a fee tight times before.

If you believe this story, and Elon, then using Elon's words "Berlin and Austin factories are gigantic money furnaces right now"

Might be a good thing he has no debt.

I believe that once China, Korea, Japan and the mainstream European manufacturers who know how to design and put together cars correctly, eg shut lines that don’t look like poorly assembled Lego, the likes of Rivian and Tesla will go the way of DeLorean.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

You mean Toyota who made an EV the front wheels fall off? OR Ford who recalled the Mach-e before customers had even got them? Those experienced car makers?

Then perhaps make some statements that sound like an adult has thought about it?

Recalls happen. Parts on vehicles fail. It's going to happen on Teslas too. That's manufacturing at scale. It is what it is.
