Plaid is a performance bargain. Its not quite as exotic as an f8 or 720s but its also a daily driver. Will be here mid/late next year.

The Kia looks great too, less space in the back than the Hyundai Ioniq 5 but will have a sportier look and be faster.

Kia/Hyundai are one group that are on the ball.

I like the look of the Kia EV6 over the Ionic 5.

If only the Kia EV6 GT was NZ$14001 cheaper…….

Not bothering with the link, if we went a week without a similar battery breakthrough I would be shocked.

Kingdragonfly reckons NZD94000 (according to post on previous page).

It is more about the arbitrary limit of $80000 to qualify for the rebate. But that is a discussion for a different thread.

UK Government looking to legislate around EV charging rates

https://www.autocar.co.nz/autocar-news-app/uk-rule-change-could-be-groundbreaking-for-electric-cars

From the link above

It’s not really a surprise, therefore, to read conversations from the UK that are several steps ahead of the conversation. The latest of these concerns public charging and how much it costs.

As it stands, unless you’re a Tesla owner with ‘free’ Supercharger access or you’re fighting the crowds for free chargers at malls and the like, it’s generally much more expensive to charge your plug-in car while out and about than it is to charge it at home.

While some might justify this by citing the convenience or necessity of public chargers, the UK seems keen to do things a little differently. Its government is looking into introducing a flat rate for public charging and private charging, in order to protect consumers from getting stung.

“Charging electric vehicles should be convenient, straightforward and inexpensive and drivers must not be disadvantaged by where they live or how they charge their vehicles,” said committee chair Huw Merriman.

The conversation is particularly pressing in the UK due to the number of people who don’t have off-street parking for their vehicles. Some of these people rely on public chargers, and it’s an issue that’s only going to become prominent as demand for them grows.

“For most drivers, the opportunity to charge an EV in their garage, on their driveway or in a dedicated parking space offers cheaper running costs,” Jack Cousens, head of roads policy for the AA, told the BBC.

“However, for the 30% of homeowners with no access to dedicated off-street parking or workplace charging, they have no choice but to pay the rates set on the public charging network.

“On the road to electrification, we cannot allow one group of drivers to benefit while others struggle - in effect, a two-tier system of have and have-nots.”

I absolutely dont expect to pay the same rate for public DC fast charging as I do at home.

The chargers are expensive to install as is high voltage power connections, plus the sites are not free either.

Making money from a DC charge network is going to be tough work for the foreseeable future, companies are only getting in not because of market share and potential.

But saying that the charging costs in EU/UK are a bit random with a number of subscription/payment models that are just straight up confusing.

It is certainly something we should look into sooner rather than later, but we also have to remember that people like ChargeNet are in a difficult position at the moment. Building out the charger network is hugely capital intensive and requires a long lead time for new chargers due to site acquisition process (selection of candidate sites, agreeing leases with landowners etc). At the same time, the EV market is small so they don't have many customers, but worst still in Auckland and some other large towns the local electricity retailers provide free charging so their largest potential markets are actually near 0.

We should indeed have a legislative framework in our back pocket ready to go but we must also take care not to choke off the commercial networks before they can even survive. Either that or we fully nationalise them - buy out ChargeNet altogether. I imagine that would be a bittersweet proposition for them but it might be in the national interest.

At the very least we could move to force the free chargers to no longer be free.

IMO there should be some streamlined centralised process for getting on street/home/multi unit dwelling level 2 charging sorted.

At the moment if you cant off street par or live in flats etc it can be a problem.

Wellington City Council trialled street chargers on lamp posts a couple of years back. I don't recall what the outcome of the study was, but yes, that was indeed the idea they were exploring.

EDIT: they have more information here.

Perhaps you should have looked at the link... this is only 2 months away tops, if the manufacturer has credibility. NB also 1,000km range.

Aion has reiterated that these charging capabilities will debut in the Aion V this September in two versions – a 3C version capable of 500 km range and a 6C version delivering 1,000 km of range.
