Here I have to disagree. IF the behavior was witnessed by an on duty member than it would mostly certainly result in a ticket. IF you called *555 at the time with the registration details than attempts would be made to locate it than and there. IF you made a formal complaint re the driving at a Police Station than it would be assigned, investigated and (most likely) result in a ticket. IF you just post about it online and don't take any steps to report it than of course no ticket will be issued.

There's several things that Police could have ticked for including Overtaking on the Right while approaching or crossing an Intersection and Level Crossing where exit blocked by stationary traffic (IANAL but a quick search of Legislation.govt.nz/Land Transport (Road User) Rule 2004 gives those two examples).

While we are at it, can we consider banning all BMWs from the roads because of their inadequate brakes?

I have hard evidence for this over a number of years.

Next time you are at the traffic lights, take careful note of the make of car at the front of the queue.

If the car at the front of the queue is a BMW then I guarantee that it will be stopped at least two metres over the white line and frequently it will be a whole car length beyond the line,

Clearly there is something wrong with these cars and it must be the brakes.

It's actually 30mins before sunset and 30mins after sunrise for having lights on. Personally, I think lights should be on all cars at all times.

The amount of cars/trucks (even a black motorcycle with all black rider the other day) I see driving in heavy rain and when it's dark without lights on is insane.

That would account for why they don't stop at STOP signs or GiveWay

No you are wrong, the law states that you need to turn on your headlights 30 mins after sunset and turn them off 30 mins before sunrise. Not the other way around, like you say above.

At least they would err on the safe side ;-) Which means they would comply with the law.

I doubt many (any?) Police officer would be waiting for the official sun-down time and then set a stop watch going and after 30 minutes start dishing out tickets.

In practice if light is fading or visibility isn't great otherwise then turn your lights on people! It's relatively simple.

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

No need for a stop watch as it's simply the official sunset time plus thirty minutes. much easier to enforce when someone fails to comply than eye judgement

Haha yeah whoops

I always remembered 30mins but the wrong way round (it makes more sense to me that way anyway!). Generally turn them on when I'm mostly driving in shadow.
