IMHO I would not bet on this. Apple Car Play and Android Auto require specific HW support. Not having the requisite HW support means replacing the entire head unit which is an expensive exercise.

The US Mazda distributor has been quite specific that, at least in that market, the retrofit will be possible with only a software upgrade or a minor hardware addition. Of course NZ supplied vehicles may not necessarily have the exact same MZD equipment so we will have to wait to see what the local distributor says here.

A side note. Mazda's MZD Connect Navigation System is among the best in business. Personally I don't miss not having Carplay and Android Auto.

I don't really like it. I find it very laggy and mine has had a few weird glitches.

They had to replace part of the computer in mine because of problems. Since they switched it , it has been a lot better. Still not a fan of having everything on a single screen, eg the radio and navigation share the same screen, but you can't view both at the same time. So you have to toggle the button to switch between them. The radio should really have a dedicated screen.

I would have look at a near new outlander. Nice vehicles. I have a couple of friends with them and they both love them and have had a great run. I've driven a couple and really enjoyed driving them.

Petrol if you aren't towing often. On the rare occasions you tow something heavy you will pay at the pump, but that's better than constantly paying RUC and higher licensing fees on a diesel vehicle.

Thanks for this. I was thinking of trying a diesel but with my 6-7km commute to work daily and barely going above 60... I'll be ticking diesel off my list.

A rational decision!

Only this morning I had to go for an unscheduled drive in the country as the DPF in my car needed burning off (the signs are the stop/start light goes out and instant fuel consumption readings go crazy, plus of course a strong smell if a window's open). Luckily I work not far from the edge of town but still there's 15 minutes and a decent amount of fuel wasted...

I will update again when I have chosen a car to buy and let you all know my reasons for choosing the car.

Dont rush yourself into anything, Dont feel like you have to buy anything. if anyone gives you pressure walk away.
Every single lemon ive had was an impulse or buy that i felt pressured into etc. Its cheaper to rent a car for 2-3 weeks than it is to be out of a car and pay to repair it.

Thanks for the advice Tim, I have been pressured into buying a car before too. Ended up finding out shortly after that the car was just fresh out of the panel beaters.

I wasn't happy one bit. I even asked if the car was accident-free... Oh well. That lesson has stuck with me since then.

That dealer went out of business though, so I don't feel as bad now.

I have a 2016 Quashqui. It's a nice crossover, not really much larger than a car really. It easily fits in moderate sized buggies, capsules, car seats. There's enough room when travelling away with a baby... just. It's nice to drive, economical, and has plenty of power. I don't have a tow bar, but my father in law tows a small trailer on his 2016 / 2017 Qashqui and doesn't have any trouble. It's big enough that parking is a bit annoying at times, it can fit into standard spaces but you may have issues opening the doors... but that's true of every car when you're trying to get a baby in and out. I'd buy it again. It cost about $30K when it was 3 or 4 months old, ex lease.

If you want a really large vehicle, Qashqui isn't the one for you. If you want something a bit bigger than a car with good visibility and reasonably good carrying capacity, it's good.

Happy to answer questions. Also, if you're near Wellington, we're selling some newborn stuff like capsule, bassinet, etc.

You'll only have to buy it back...🤣

There would be if dogs charged an exorbitant hourly rate for barking. Try offering a mechanic 12 Tux biscuits per day
