So TradeMe haven't been able to help, not exactly an enlightening process but they have 'encouraged the seller to resolve the matter'. Seller no longer responding to my emails (been very courteous in all my dealings with him). Onto MTA now to see how they can help. After than I think I'll try the disputes tribunal, anyone gone down that path before?

Would the MTA have any jurisdiction over retail of this guy / member via trade me? His MTA membership might just be for the workshop jobs? Either way I guess MTA could have a chat to him.

I wouldn't expect the MTA to do much of anything you'd be better off going to the Commerce Commission and get them to try and deal with it before going down the disputes tribunal road I've found the ComCom very good to deal with on several occasions

Did you use pay now, as I suggested earlier you may have buyer protection

Buyer protection doesn't seem to apply here as buy now was just a direct bank transfer so reading trademe terms that rules that out.

I'll check out commerce commission
