Thanks for the replies folks, I ended up going with the same '18 Merida as @martyyn. Must admit I don't actually mind the lime stripes haha. Damn near died on the way home yesterday having to go up 2 rises due to a lack of physical fitness.

I went on Friday afternoon and tried the 2019 300 vs 500, and while the 500 felt a little bit nicer to ride, I'm not entirely confident that it wasn't just a case of perception bias. And certainly not $150 worth of difference (which went towards a nice Giro helmet and some good front + rear lights).

The other thing I noticed was the Manitou had a progressive lockout, but eh. If I find I make use of it enough, I'm sure it will easy enough to upgrade to above entry level kit in future.

Another hijack (sorry)

I have an old Bauer Hot Chilli I'm looking to upgrade. I went to look at the Roscoe 8 the other day and Torpedo7 didn't have any in stock but I sat on a similar Trek bike to check the sizing. The handlebars seemed wide and the frame chunky.

My husband is trying to convince me to buy a full suspension like the Liv Embolden for $1899 so I tried that as well and it felt much nicer. They also have the Liv Pique 2 for $2249. I notice the equivalent Giant bikes have a better selection in the $1800-3000 price range (Fox forks etc).

Any ideas of a nice full suspension bike for a female in the under $3k (preferably around the 2k) price bracket?

Liv is Giant's female specific range. It's not long ago that women's bikes just got the 'pink it and shrink it' treatment, companies do have genuine bikes specced for female riders. IE lighter shock tunes, narrower bars, thinner grips etc.

Looking at the Pique and the Embolden, I would go for the Pique, for not much more you're getting better brakes, drivetrain, fork and shock, same dropper post, same amount of travel, better (or maybe different tires). The only thing I find confusing is that they appear to be very similar (the amount of travel is the same). But the geometry is different, IE the Embolden is slacker (better for high speed and downhill). I'd prefer the Embolden's geometry and the Pique's build kit!
