As for diesel, that is more of a worry, as we have tractors/digger that needs it.  So I am now planning the use of those machines a lot more efficently.

MBIE figures show (as at Sunday 22) only 18 days of diesel in the country plus another 7 days due to arrive between 30 March and 5 April. So a total of 25 days and we have probably burnt through 4 days of that already. By the 5th April we will be down to 11 days supply of diesel.

And yet not a peep out of the government about how to allocate supplies, apart from price gouging which is causing vast economic damage already.

Does this mean that on 30th of March - we will only have about 10-11 days of Diesel in reserves on land? Sounds a bit risky/low to me.

Being rurally located, on a farm, public transport is simply not an option for me.

I have already taken steps to try reduce our fuel usage on farm.  I now use my bicycle (push bike) instead of the two wheeler motorbike for shifting stock in during the day.  Added bonus is I am getting fitter!

It isnt much, but any saving of fuel is a win, as it saves it for the other machinery that will need it more.

As for diesel, that is more of a worry, as we have tractors/digger that needs it.  So I am now planning the use of those machines a lot more efficently.

Locks have been installed for all the fuel storage on farm, and security cameras installed.

We are only small, but this is going to have a bit of a flow on effect for prices across the board - I do feel though that supermarkets could absorb some of the costs, rather than passing onto their shoppers, but that is a dream in reality!

It sounds like you're sorted already.

The best, because there's no false alarms, is a magnetic probe, near a driveway. Probe does need to be buried under driveway. Just lying next to driveway enough.

I like field cameras / hunting cameras. It doesn't prevent theft, but at least you have some evidence.

I've always been a fan of IR beams, and 4G modems.

Hopefully working on some data presentations with less zeros in the present.

It is/was a terrible way to present the data.

Looks like NZ Herald has the new presentation from mbie continuing with largely irrelevant zeros:

Expecting them to absorb an increase in costs would be like expecting them to pass on savings if GST was ever taken off "food".........

Well hopefully it will calm down the "After Easter we've only got x days of diesel left"

Also I found this in the Korean media that seems have been ignored in this part of the world,

Gov't says will be no significant oil supply disruption in April, dismissing industry woes

The government said Monday (23rd) that there will be no significant oil supply disruptions next month, as it has secured alternative shipments and plans to release strategic reserves, dismissing industry concerns amid the prolonged Middle East crisis.

Domestic refiners and petrochemical companies have projected tight oil supplies by April, citing existing stocks that could last four to five weeks and crude imports from non-Middle East sources, such as the United States and Australia.

"Recent increases in international oil prices, including Dubai crude reaching US$158 per barrel, are rising faster than during the Russia-Ukraine war in 2022, marking an unprecedented situation," said Yang Gi-uk, an official at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.

The senior official, however, emphasized the government is monitoring crude inventories in real time and believes that secured alternative shipments and the planned release of strategic reserves will prevent any major supply problems.

"While crude imports in April are expected to decline compared with usual levels, the steady inflow of alternative supplies and the planned release of strategic reserves in mid-April are expected to prevent any significant supply disruptions," he said.

The official said local refiners have secured shipments through alternative routes that bypass the Strait of Hormuz, a key global energy route, which has effectively been closed due to heightened regional tensions.

Yang cited planned imports from the United Arab Emirates, noting that of the 24 million barrels to be brought in, 4 million barrels will arrive in two shipments at the end of March and on April 1. The remaining 18 million barrels are scheduled to begin arriving in early to mid-April.

Regarding imports of Russian crude oil, Yang said domestic refiners have taken a cautious stance, citing concerns over quality issues, financial settlement risks and potential secondary sanctions. (Yonhap)

News outlet Bloomberg has reported the South Korean government is discussing whether to redirect export-bound jet fuel to the domestic market amid mounting supply pressures.

South Korea is a major source of refined fuel imports to New Zealand, providing around half of the country's fuel, and South Korea itself relies heavily on crude oil imports from the war-disrupted Middle East.

Westpac chief economist Kelly Eckhold said some Asian refineries were now running short of crude oil feedstock, and airlines were being asked to carry more fuel for their return flights.

I tend to agree with the gist of what Luxon has said on the topic. Ie; We have good relationships with the relevant refining countries and that side of things is unlikely to be an issue for NZ.

NZ's requirements are pretty small in terms of those economies, and it's a relatively small price for those governments to maintain the excellent relationship compared to the massive volumes exported to other places.

Ie; No need for concern in terms of getting what we have contracted for. Certainly not excessive and obsessive concern anyway.
