Performance comparison by Bjorn Nyland

At 10% SOC the 2021 SR+ MIC 0-100 km/h time is about the same as the Pref and LR, and
the SR+ MIC has only lost 13 kw max power but the Pref and LR have lost about 200 kw.

i was also going to say, the SR+ and LR are very close in terms of actual range. esp if you use 100% of the SR+ battery and limit the LR to only using 70-80%. if i were to get a model 3 it would be the SR+.

Well a few days ago I finally pulled the trigger with ordering a Long Range! Now the hardest thing is waiting for it to arrive.

I was driving home tonight into the sun shining into the cameras at various points. This is how the affected cameras saw the world in that scenario:

Front camera (not quite as direct as I expected but was very bright for me)

Right repeater camera

Thank you for going to the trouble of finding and posting these images.

Imagine the case where the sun is just above the tree line in the first image with zero cloud. I guess it’s a question of just how much ‘lens flare’ there would be and whether that would affect the autopilot functionality.

make sure you scrutinise the battery temps. that can explain the differences in the 2021 2019 perf

there's probably other factors too but the lfp is the winner in my books. for now. until a newer tech shows up ...

Batman:

Looking forward for the DLC for my car :) - I don't think I need the acceleration boost as the car is plenty fast enough! I think full self driving will come before that if I were to purchase any DLC's!

I had this confirmed by the service centre too as it was something I was willing to wait for. The Ryzen is miles ahead of the Atom and I think in the near future there will be software features only available on the more capable Ryzen.

Question for owners here - do you use the Teslacam for your dashcam or have a more capable dashcam also? I note the Teslacam is quite low resolution.

This is one thing that really does annoy me about the Tesla business model. I don't get to choose whether my car has an Atom or Ryzen processor, and Tesla charges me the same amount of money either way. In this case it's not likely to be something that really causes me any problems - I'm old enough to still want my car to be a car more than I want it to be a computer - but the general attitude of not knowing what possibly significant features may or may not be in your car until it arrives despite paying the same price regardless is a bit off, in my opinion.

Not off enough that it put me off buying one, but still.

I've only ever used the built in dashcam feature. The resolution and and quality is plenty for capturing incidents that relate to your car - it saved me my excess when someone backed into me in a car park. Some like to add their own camera to capture sound as well.

No big deal, they're from my drive last night and it's pretty easy to save the footage in the car and view it later 🙂

That repeater camera shot is about what it looks like when the sun is shining directly into the camera. They have filters and a different colour spectrum on them to help reduce the intensity

Congratulations! I am guessing it will be a few months until you get it?

I use both Teslacam and a traditional dashcam (as Teslacam was not available when I first purchased the car). Dashcam's front view is a lot wider angle, higher res and captures sound, compared to Tesla's. Also if I want to leave Sentry mode off and save 2% of battery per eight hours, dashcam uses no-where near that much power. My dashcam runs 24/7, whereas I don't have my Tesla's one set to always record.

Congratulations by the way! You won't be disappointed! Software updates every ~20 days is awesome, free features FTW!

Thanks all! Will just stick with the Teslacam as it’s rumoured they’re going to be using the internal microphone to record audio in the near future too.

I think having all the cameras active (and their heaters) along with the infotainment computer running does chew up more battery than an embedded device but the bonus from this is all parts of the car are captured in the event, and potential live mode coming soon.

And this is what I’m excited about - the updates. The car is just always going to get better. My current car may get a dealer software update but I never have any idea what for apart from changing the service menu pin code for the infotainment system!

Have they given you any indication of when your new ‘precious’ might arrive? I had heard that it could be May/June, particularly for the LR and Performance. I wouldn’t be surprised if the majority of the next shipment, rumoured to be arriving in early March, is white 2wds.

At least the wait gives you the opportunity to get everything else you may need, be that accessories or charging infrastructure, in place prior to arrival.
