🤣
Watch the Fully Charged video. It is explained there.

a new way of thinking.
everybody think 0-100 time + range now.
but what we need is efficiency and energy density
hope they move from tall SUVs to sleek wagons
but looks impossible to "panel beat". expect higher insurance premiums.

maybe it wants to be a kia.
jokes aside maybe aerodynamics? just a guess.
the LED lighting doesn't use much energy.
frugal is not the intention, every piece is custom designed and irrepairable

Wouldn't be a guess if you had watched the Fully Charged video - and that also explains that everything to do with that car has been done to be as frugal with weight and energy as possible - hence my question around the energy use and weight, no matter how small, of what appears to be decorative lighting.

Whut? This isnt a new way of thinking at all.
Heres some shocking news for you, other companies have thought about efficiency before.
RE this particular mercedes, they wont build it its a design showcase, cars also have to be practical as well as slippery.
My first thought was someone had cut the front and back off a Kia EV6 and welded them on to an Aston Martin DB6, so a DBEV6?
Finally though the message that an EV’s party piece of a blistering 0-100 time isn’t the most important thing.
And anything to promote the sedan form factor over horrible SUVs and Crossovers, that manufacturers seem to obsessed with producing, is fine by me. I’m just trying to think which manufacturer has a balance of both?

0-100 times have always been a side effect of having a battery large enough to provide decent range, powerful motors are easy and cheap
Beautiful car, can definitely see things in it that will make a real difference to future vehicles. Also some stuff that would be wildly impractical on a production car, but that's kind of the point of concept cars. But even if the concept's <10kWh/100km turns into 13kWh on a production car that's still a decent improvement on Tesla which is currently the efficiency winner.

Personally I see this as the pushback against the early EVs which some marketing genius decided to shape as ugly as possible so that the entire world would know you weren't driving a real car. They should have come with an integrated Hat of Invulnerability.
Except for Tesla who showed that not only could an EV look like a normal car, it could actually be awesome.
I won't be drag racing my car from every set of traffic lights but as I explained to the guy at the shop while my wife was signing paperwork to buy a brand new motorbike a couple of years ago, I drive an EV because I believe it's a critical piece of the puzzle we need to solve fast if we want to leave a planet for our grandchildren but that doesn't mean I don't still miss the Impreza or the 200SX I used to own.

The Americans all want to drive tanks, and they push their culture out to everyone else. :-(

I'm currently on 14kw/100km in a perf 3, I am sure some SR+ are doing 13, these numbers from Daimler are calculated not real world
