I plan to when I head into thee Tesla showroom in Auckland this Friday, it was a simple question to Michael if he was able to successfully haggle on the price or not.....

A bit like Toyota they don't haggle (I tried) and so will be paying full retail. As I got told by the service centre there is already huge demand for Tesla's so there isn't any need to lower prices, you're either going to buy or not because you want a Tesla specifically which is 100% my case as I personally want a Tesla, I don't want a Leaf or Kona. I think it is a little like Apple of the car world - with MacBooks and iPhones there is no haggling as you want an iPhone so will be prepared to pay RRP if you wanted the latest and greatest (I do understand some stores do sometimes have deals but imagine if Apple were the only place you can buy from for this example).

Heck, I even tried haggling by getting them to include a free wall charger with no luck :) I think the most you'll be able to get from a haggle with Tesla is perhaps a free pen.

Edit: As already pointed out the stores / service centres don't do sales, they'll just hold your hand as you order through the website as I suspect this is part of their car provisioning flow to provision you an account etc.

All good, cheers! I will likely still go ahead with the LR, but man.. id love that rebate on top if there was anyway possible for it.

There was a picture in the herald on few days back showing auckland ports completely flooded with teslas.. there would have easily been 100-150 of them parked up

Quite impressive

There is at least one, probably two deliveries expected in Feb which are bigger than that one.

I’m quite happy with the “price is the price” sales model. At least you know where you stand and you don’t walk away from the dealership thinking “I wonder if I could have got a better deal?” When Toyota went to the agency model, cars like the Camry dropped from an RRP of $60K to a TDP of $50K. The difference being the dealer margin. A low ball trade-in offer is what prevented me from getting a RAV4 hybrid a few years ago because that is the only place they have wriggle room on.
As far as I know Tesla just brings in a car wholesaler if you have a trade in and you get what they offer. Probably better to use Trademe if you can be bothered.

Yeah they dont want any hassle with trade ins so it just goes via a wholesaler for bottom dollar.

Sold both of my cars privately rather than traded in

I had the Leaf on TradeMe at a ridiculous price until the EVs Enhanced announcement of an announcement. Am going to hang onto it for for the time being, at least until they release firm pricing and availability and then will decide whether to flick it off for bugger all or put a new battery in it and have 2 EVs. I'd prefer the latter if the price is not too stupid because kid #1 will be getting his learner's in the middle of the year and living rurally, petrol costs would bankrupt a school kid working after hours for minimum wage. But I'm happy to let him have some free electricity.

We tried trading in the wifes VW at a dealer and they only offered 32k for it so we said stuff that, listed it on trademe for 60k and we sold it for 58k 3 weeks later.

I've got my Kia Seltos listed for trade-in on the Tesla portal currently more out of interest with what I will get for it but will likely list on Trademe. I had a bit of hell selling my last car as it was at the start of COVID and we went into a sudden L4 Lockdown and yet, despite this, had to tell people to bugger off (stronger words were often used) because of people wanting to do a test drive and potentially purchase during L4 because the listing was still there.

If the price is lets say $2000 difference between selling it to the low-ball dealer vs dealing with the public then just not having to deal with it is worth $2000 to me but I know full well it won't be like this and I'll get an absolute lowball offer. They also don't have a space to fill in some added features like for example an Alarm which could in some cases raise the value of it to the right person.

Came across this yesterday - does anyone know whether this has been verified?

Tesla Model 3 Range Decreased By 2.4% On Average After Installing AMD Ryzen Processors Suggests Data...

The report from Teslascope came in the form of a tweet that also highlighted how buyers in Australia are required to consent to have their vehicle range decreased since the time a pre-order was made...
Tesla's message reads as follows:

We have updated Model 3 vehicles to optimise the touch screen experience with our new car computer. This hardware change requires more power, resulting in a minor drop in range. Your Model 3 range is now 602 kilometers (WLTP), 22 kilometers less than originally communicated.

Easily within the noise margin. But good on them for communicating.

they probably know the power consumption of everything, just had a thought, maybe that's why it's minimalist design - zero power draw from other electronic components.

Tesla do well with efficiency overall, 22km loss for the ryzen is a fine pay off as the car has plenty of range..

Anyone upset with this I will swap.

Good illustration on how nimble Tesla are on changing the sourcing of their ‘chips’ with matching hardware / software updates.  Result is no slowdown in production unlike some of the other major players.
