The screen inside tells whoever is looking in

I think when people are so intently focused on the dog they may well be unware of the display.    Even did not listen to her explanation.   This is not a tesla, not sure what the screen says .

Oh, what brand of EV is it?

alasta: Mainstream manufacturers, in contrast, apply the kaizen methodology which has been highly successful among Japanese car manufacturers for many decades but is ostensibly too conservative for computer geeks who want the latest gadgets.

Kaizen is continuous improvement. I can guarantee Tesla uses some variety of that process.

Hot with anticipation of the Kia EV6! I'm holding off looking at petrol SUVs currently.

alasta: The IONIQ5 and EV6 are dedicated electric platforms and, in my view, the most exciting electric vehicles on the market at the moment. Hopefully they will become more affordable over the next few years.

@alasta - have you driven either of these cars? Obviously, I haven’t driven the EV6 (not yet released here) but I have driven a mid-range Ioniq5 and I was far from being blown away by it. I’m sure it’ll (hopefully!) be solid and dependable as well as cheap to run, but ‘exciting’ certainly isn’t a word I’d use to describe it. Perhaps the EV6 will be, though; certainly the GT model should be, but that won’t be at a price I can afford!

By contrast, the Model 3 I took for a test drive this morning… now, that was exciting, both in terms of performance and that truly distinctive cabin; certainly enough to cement our plans to order a Model Y, once it’s finally available here (looking at the 3’s boot again also confirmed it’s just too small to replace a mid-sized wagon). Can’t wait, and I continue to be jealous of those who only have to wait a matter of a few months for their 3…

I didn't necessarily mean exciting in terms of driving experience - I was referring to the anticipation of a new generation of electric vehicles that appeal to people like me who don't fit into Tesla's target market.

Sure, that makes sense; it is a matter of horses for courses, as my father would have said. There need to be the more conventional models out there to be able to convince an otherwise sceptical public.

I, on the other hand, very much sit within the Tesla target audience, and luckily I’ve managed to convince my wife as well! (But after today’s drive I’m yet to be convinced that the ‘absolutely minimalist button’ approach is the right one; I’m sure I’ll get used to it, but I do think this is where they’ve gone a little too far…)

The "Air' is pretty much bang on £40K in the UK  so they should be able to squeeze it under,

every time i look at a pic of the EV6 i get excited (i have a soft spot for shooting brakes). if it drives like it looks it would be rather exciting.

while Tesla steering rack is built for maximum rotation and motors are tuned to deliver max push (? is it the motor design) other cars seem to focus on other things so maybe that's what you find exciting in the tesla? or the minimalism or the glass roof?

This is the key point though. Forgetting floor mats is one thing, but missing such a safety critical item is bizarre. I would have thought there would be multiple levels of QC to make sure this couldn't occur.

People really need to think carefully about their situation and personality type when choosing to purchase a car made by a tech company, versus one made by a traditional auto maker.

Tech companies design radical products and do so on a best effort basis, with the assumption that they can issue an 'update' to fix their mistakes. Mainstream manufacturers, in contrast, apply the kaizen methodology which has been highly successful among Japanese car manufacturers for many decades but is ostensibly too conservative for computer geeks who want the latest gadgets.

I know which I prefer, but it's good that the market is catering towards different types of buyers.

Not sure what your point is. Pretty sure my 1500 kg empty weight ICE vehicle went well over 200,000 on a set of pads.
