What are folks impressions of the Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6? The Ioniq 5 looks great but the Kia EV6 looks stunning. From the side and rear views it reminds me a lot of the Aston Martin DBX. I am looking forward to seeing the EV6 in the flesh.

EV6 hands down. there are a few good reviews on youtube if you want to have a look. EV6 also slight more "efficient" (more miles for each kWh) and a bit more efficient than other EV6s bar Tesla

Their design is deceptive. They are bigger than they look. The cabin is a nice place to be in but the rear seats leave a bit to be desired, but of no concern to us. The trunk is roomy but the under hood storage (the froot) is small and more or less pointless and wont even fit the cables etc.

I was surprised when I saw the Ioniq5 in person. Based on the photos I'd seen online I was expecting a hatchback but yeah, it's basically a CUV. Not that it matters, but the one I happened to see on the road also had a dead daytime running light on one side.

Ah! We were talking about the Tesla frunk while driving on holidays this Christmas and my wife told me that the next time someone called it a frunk on Geekzone it was my mission to start calling it a froot.

And thus I salute you, fellow frooter.

They look ok on video and photos, seen an ioniq 5 on the road and it looks nice, doesnt look that big.

Lots of general disappointment when looking closer at the interior and boot space etc from what I can tell, no idea on ev6

The trunk space is OK, just that OK and the "hidden" space is good for the charge cable and laptop bag but given the price of the vehicle it's a pain that one has to go into the rear doors to lower the rear seat backs. There should be a release in the trunk. Atleast there is no fake exhaust pipes.

Sometimes I will view and drive a vehicle multiple times before I make up my mind about it. In the case of the Ioniq5, I viewed and drove it once. Then crossed it off my list. It gave me the feeling of a soulless, sterile appliance. While functional, it wasn’t great to drive and (imho) it could have been designed in Minecraft.

Edit: Still waiting for the EV6 launch to try one.

That is really interesting. My wife feels same. I can see where you are both coming from. It is probably why I am more interested in the Kia EV6

The EV6 is certainly getting some good reviews on youtube, it has kept me interested in it and i'll continue to update here the press releases when I get them.

I have, as I said in a previous post, stopped looking at any petrol SUVs, of which the top 3 were Mazda CX9, the Defender (the price hurts me here) and the Xtrail (I drive Nissan already and would love an electric qashqai!!). I drive over to Penrose today, the local Z garage on the junction where Jaguar and Land Rover are, 91 was $2.70

What worries me about the EV6 is the NZ price, after all it is a Kia and if the GT middle range is above $100k, I'm going to need to think hard about that purchase.

Lets wait and see till early Q2 2022.

Kia Stinger vs Hyundai Sonata?

I have re-read my post multiple times. Didn’t mention excitement, or lack of it. My comment on the Kia is I haven’t seen or driven it. Can’t evaluate it until I do. But yes I will let you know what I think of the EV6 when I get the opportunity to.

The reviews of the Kia EV6 is that is set up to be a more sporty car than the Ioniq 5.

None of them are sports cars, of course. They share the same platform but there is still a difference in the setup of the car and the feeling of them, from what I have learned from the reviews. There is a design difference too, and I must say I might be leaning towards the more traditional looking EV6, but still think the retro boxy look of the Ioniq 5 is quite nice.

My impression is that I might actually like the interior of the EV6 more than the Ioniq 5.

There are lots of reviews on YouTube. Go there and search EV6 review, or even better "Ioniq 5 vs EV6" .

Well, this is an interesting reversal to the “Kia is a cheaper version of Hyundai” line:

’The 2022 Kia EV6 is more expensive than the closely related Hyundai Ioniq 5, starting at $42,115 compared to the Ioniq's $40,925 starting price... The EV6's basic specs are identical to the Ioniq 5's, although the Kia's EPA range estimates are longer than the Hyundai's. ’ (https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a37398116/2022-kia-ev6-price/)

That’s in the US, so it’ll be interesting to see if the same applies to NZ pricing. I’d be surprised if Kia prices the base model over $80k (or do they think demand will be so high [or supply so limited] that they can sell all cars without having to sell to those relying on accessing the govt rebate?).
