Report it anyway - most on and off-ramps are covered by CCTV, they should be able to find it if you have an accurate date/time.

Damn, I should have thought of that after one hair raising incident at Tristram Ave southbound on ramp. Much like the poster with his incident on the onramp. But no damage to my car, but sure nearly squeezed out an involuntary nugget.

Some BS privacy laws limit their retention of stuff from those cameras when I asked about getting some that was weeks old a few years back.

Depends on if you're going thru the plethora of Transmission Gully related roadworks.

My pet peeve is all the people that race through there at 100km, ignoring all the signage, including the now huge flashing RADAR-signs that say "SLOW DOWN". Surprised there hasn't been a major accident in there yet...

There are many places where 100k is too fast on SH1, examples from Ngauranga interchange to Johnsonville, Pukerua Bay to McKays crossing in Wellington, Waiouru to Hatepe Hill Taupo to name a few. A limit of 80k or less is something we are going to have to get used to if we are to stop the road toll reaching the terrible levels of the 70s

That's all fine, but it comes down to driving to the conditions. The examples you've both provided are an exception to the general rule, ie that you should do 100kph in the hand lane unless the conditions preclude it (I haven't driven the areas around lower NI that you mention so I'll take you at face value). Typically, people driving in fine weather, light traffic with clear road in front of them should being doing close to the posted limit if they're in the right hand lane of the motorway. If they're not comfortable with that, they should move over to the left hand lane of the motorway. I simply cannot understand the mentality of people who refuse to let faster vehicles pass them.

I was stuck in heavy traffic yesterday heading north from Porirua up the Kapiti Coast. The driver of the car in front spent at least 20 minutes TAKING PHOTOS OF THE SUNSET WHILST DRIVING.

Is this a new road, and were they newish cars? As many new cars now have navigation systems built in, if they are not updated, or show the wrong speed for the road, you can encounter people driving at the wrong speed. So if they go over that limit in the navigation system, they will get a warning For example, my mazda has the incorrect speed in certain places, and it is even worse now since it got an update in April. eg it gives a 50 speed limit in 80 areas in the Wellington region.

30 second ad to see about 15 seconds of video. Im sure there is a youtube from the originator of this that could have been embedded or something to stop herald from profiting off someone elses camera footage.

There is nothing that could have happened before this that make it OK to pass like that.

I did not defend either truck driver. At all.

I simply pointed out there is likely to be more to this than is in video on the NZ Herald site. Both drivers involved seem to be doing something dangerous - two wrongs don't make a right.

Fair enough clarification. It is just the way you worded it seemed that you were more concerned about the cameraman than the truck on the wrong side of the road.

So valid point, it is possible there was some kind of road rage going on between the 2 drivers.
