Honestly I think Elon has been chatting to Lisa Su, this isnt an oh shit we've ran out pf chips moment but a switch to a much better system (which has been in the new model S for a bit now).

They also have a solid relationship with nvidia, being one of their biggest customers too...

All good, cheers! I will likely still go ahead with the LR, but man.. id love that rebate on top if there was anyway possible for it.

There was a picture in the herald on few days back showing auckland ports completely flooded with teslas.. there would have easily been 100-150 of them parked up

Quite impressive

There is at least one, probably two deliveries expected in Feb which are bigger than that one.

This Pic in herald of a loaded captain cook wharf , was from November,, it wasn’t clear.. I ordered my m3 in November and had a call Tuesday telling me there’s 3 ships due in Feb and one early March. They wouldn’t give vessel names. And wouldn’t commit which vessel my car would be on, but they’re sure it’s one of these three ships coming from Shanghai.

Well I got my trade-in offer and get this...

I paid $26k for my car (Kia Seltos Entry Level model) back in 2019 and have done only 26,000km on it. I got offered $22k from Tesla for it. Needless to say I accepted the offer as it is more than I would get from the public and I don't have to deal with the public, or trademe etc.

Pretty major win in my books.

We’re very strongly considering upgrading from our 2016 Leaf to an SR Model 3. Robust discussion on colour aside, we are now trying to decide on whether to go for the 18” or 19” wheels - the latter being my preference, largely due to aesthetics. There seems to be some support for the 18” wheels having better range, but I don’t think the comparisons I’ve seen were done with tires identical but for size. Is it the case that road noise and comfort/ride are more influenced by tire choice than wheel size/tire profile, or will a 19” wheel and accordingly lower profile tire (almost always) be ‘more sporty’, noisier, and have a less forgiving ride than an 18” wheel, irrespective of tire choice?

I realise there will be strong personal/subjective elements to this (as seems to be reflected earlier in this thread), but is there a consensus on which wheel works ‘best’ on NZ roads? Can you overcome the purported road noise and range impacts of the 19” wheels through tire choice, or is there really not much in it?

With delivery times out to 14-20 weeks, are we able to alter our order after the deposit is paid? Does Tesla provide a date estimate of when your order is locked-in and can no longer be changed, or is that pretty much immediate?

Lastly, I understand the referral codes for supercharger kms are no longer a thing. Is that the case?

Thanks for any help on the above. I’ll keep looking through the fb page in the meantime…

They give me an initial estimate about two days after paying the deposit (so around 2nd December). Received an email today saying my vehicle was on its way and is expected at the Auckland delivery site in late Feb. That suggests your car goes on the production line in around a month from order. Longer now I guess as my delivery lead time was still in the 8-12 weeks range - they increased it about a fortnight afterwards.

Yeah, the referal program has ended so no more free Supercharger credit.

As for the wheels, the 18s have a, IMO, nice wheel underneath the plastic caps. I removed mine the day I got the car.

I'm still yet to hear anything about my M3 LR - basically have accepted the trade in offer and been told I should have an estimate likely this week (however the service centre is estimating early March).

On another note... Today had somebody slam their door into my car putting a pretty sizable dent into the passenger side door... Thankfully however this happened at a Café and I witnessed it so was able to grab the details of the driver as well as the license plate of the Ford Ranger (and company) and have put in a claim to insurance. The scriptures are true - thy will either damage, or get their car damaged when thy accepts a trade-in offer or is about to sell a car (also, Murphy's Law).

Oof, yeah that's poor timing! At least the next time it happens to your new car they'll also be recorded by the side cameras 😉

Thanks both for the helpful input. I prefer the look of the unclad 18” to the capped version, and I guess you could always pop the Aero caps on if you were going on a road trip and needed the extra 1-2% range!

Yep I alternate between caps and no, if you take the covers off you'll need centre caps and nut caps all available cheaply online

Well, we've just ordered a Blue M3 with the 18" wheels. Pretty excited tbh. Rather dangerously, we've dropped a fair bit more on accessories in preparation for the long wait, and I can see there might be a few more coming once they're back in stock.

On that, has anyone used the pet liner? We do have a dog, but it could be useful for teenage sons, too, I'm thinking...

Thanks to all who contributed to this thread, and also my questions above - really useful information for us previously a little on the fence.

The website/order says 14 -20 weeks, but the chap in the Auckland showroom suggested orders made now would be May/June, so likely the upper end of that range.
