Batwing: Houthis have been doing this on and off fro years, and have at times targeted commercial shipping. they're better positioned to impact shipping through the suez route which did pick up some slack during security concerns circa 2023.

Yemen's Ansar Allah also known as 'the Houthis' is the government of the majority of the population in Yemen. It is not currently targeting commercial shipping. It has indicated it will resume shipping disruption if attacks on Iran continue. This is the security of supply topic. Take the war events and related discussion to the war topic please.

The post that kicked off that 'houthi' discussion was clearly war related and from there subsequent posters began discussing the war, no surprise there.

This topic is focused on actual supply and availability.

I think this time it's related to this thread - they're under orders to shut off the other side of Saudi Arabia as well, which is where a bunch of ships have been loading up from a pipeline across Saudi Arabia.

Pricing at pump seems to have stablised 'touch wood' ?

The grind of the higher price will be boosting costs throughout economy, at the same time dragging down spending power.
Not a great time to need to buy or upgrade stuff, on top of Ai sucking up all the semiconductors.

Yemen has fired two missiles at Israel in the last couple of days. That is the first since the start of the US-Israel-Iran war. There are no reports of Yemeni attacks on Red Sea shipping during the Iran war. There are no current attacks on Red Sea shipping.

Not a great time but it may get worse if the helium supply issues are not easily resolved. On the plus side Korea claims a six month helium stockpile and Taiwan is confident it has helium supply from USA to make up for the Qatar supply disruption.

I am hesitant to post this video, because Garner is known as an opinionated and often divisive media personality. He has been described by the Australian TV channel SBS as right-wing.

But to his credit he has some left leaning opinions: unexpectedly strongly pro‑vaccine, and pro-climate change action (he wants more New Zealand’s emissions‑reduction action).

So I think of him as a "mixed bag"

Diesel seems to have stabilized at the same price as petrol or a bit higher. Hopefully less cars on the road right now is going to result in better fuel economy for commercial road users and their actual fuel use will be lower than usual and therefore not impact their actual running cost/prices in practice🤞

I have not followed that in detail. My impression is that was a result of what was required to be included and how the data was presented at that time. It strikes me as a bit silly. More or less reporting a taxpayers union lobby group press release. Like Wayne Brown continuing to rant about the number of road cones when Wayne Brown has been the boss in council for the last three years. The government minister is the person ultimately responsible for those figures and reporting - Nicola Willis. While I haven't followed it this looks more like taking pressure off Willis than anything else.

That price stabilisation will be directly related to the crude oil price having not moved in the past day or so. This is typical as the financial markets see little activity during weekends and the reality of the situation including the perceived impact by the crisis's escalation by Yemen will be seen as overseas markets open this week (in EU & US time zones) which will then be reflected in our pump prices.

Kinda stunned by the number of Facebook posts starting to appear where Diesel users are wanting RUC exemptions due to the price of Diesel passing the cost of 91 Octane Petrol

As a consumer, transport rebates/exemptions would be amazing.

The government's main problem with that approach is there is every chance the cost of fuel will remain high for some time even if conflict ends exactly tomorrow, which it won't.
