Rather dangerously, we've dropped a fair bit more on accessories in preparation for the long wait

Ahem. I may have, ah, done the same the day after I ordered mine and bought the front roof shade, the all weather boot liner, the 16A charger plug adapter, a 3-phase AC type 2 cable (from EVSE Adapters, not Tesla), and put my name down to be notified when the roof racks and pet liner were back in stock. Shut up and take my money etc. 🤪

@SaltyNZ You able to link what you got and where? I note the blue adapter is out of stock at Tesla as are many things currently. Still got a wee bit to go until I get my car but worth getting stuff ordered where I can :)

I got this cable for fixed AC chargers. The rest I got directly from the Tesla shop - most likely it was me who bought the last blue adapter as it was showing out of stock as soon as my order shipped. :-) But EVSEAdapters seem to have one too.

I'm assuming that's US$ on that website? Did you have to pay GST to customs? Assuming the shipping is free and you had to pay GST, it brings the cost to about $60 cheaper than the Tesla store option (which appears to be in stock at the moment)

USD, yes. Slow shipping was 19.00 USD (no point rushing it since the car won't be here for weeks yet) and no GST was requested to be paid. All up it worked out about $300 NZ, so yes about $50-$60 cheaper than Tesla directly depending on exchange rate fluctuations. Differences between the cables - the Tesla one is longer (7.5m vs 5.5m), but the EVSEA cable comes in single or 3-phase. The EVSEA single-phase cable is $14 cheaper so you'd save even a bit more money. I got the 3-phase one anyway.

Yeah, I have the one Tesla is selling but sometimes I wish I had a shorter one. When I reverse park into a charger I often only need a 1m cable to reach the car so I end up having a spool of cable sitting on the ground. However, the 7.5m length does mean you can basically choose to park whichever way you want and still reach the charger...and if someone chooses to park in an EV spot without charging you can reach from the neighbour parks too.

I'm actually not sure if I'll need a Type 2 adapter. I think the blue adapter is a bit more useful especially if you're heading out to camping sites but in general you'd always use a DC Fast Charger (Chargenet, Tesla) where you can else charge at home.

Speaking of which I've already got a small handful of NFC fobs for the Chargenet chargers. Just no car for a few months 🙃

Yes to be fair I've lived with a Leaf for over 4 years without ever needing a cable for BYOC AC destination chargers but since I was spending money on accessories in lieu of driving the actual car...

...it seemed like a good idea. I have been to a few places where I've vaguely wished I'd had one - parking in Auckland, for example, there are about 6 spots in the downtown building for EV-only with charger, right near the pedestrian exit, but you can only park there if you're charging. So next time I head down that way, I'll be able to.

I got one mostly because there are a fair few decent parking/charging options in chc.

Botanical gardens, supermarkets, lichfield street car park etc.  TBH you'll never make the cost back but if I need it when I am out and about its there.

The North Island, especially Auckland has a fair number of car parks that have cable-attached chargers. In the South Island, nearly every (if not all...) public AC chargers are BYOC. As more Hotels and Motels start adding chargers then having the cable might prove worthwhile - going to a hotel or motel with a charger available often means you don't even need to use a DC charger, especially if you have a Long Range.

Remember you can use tesla destination chargers which do have cables already (just a normal tesla wallbox )

You can, but I haven't really seen a lot of expansion of the Destination Charger network over the last couple years, which makes me wonder if Tesla has stopped giving out free chargers to venues.

Hi all, just curious, how are people buying their new Tesla, are you doing finance, extending the house mortgage or just rolling in cash?

Hoping Tesla come out with a cheaper small hatchback runaround version so we can get into the EV world as well. Why haven’t they done this already?
