Because the margin isn’t in cheap cars… it’s why they released the S and X before the 3 and Y.

Tesla has spoken of a cheap(er) car for quite some time - the one sometimes referred to as the Model 2, and talked of being pitched at around $25k US) - but at their earnings announcement last week it was also confirmed there’d be no new models released this year.

I’d also be very surprised if it is Tesla that’ll bring EVs to the “masses” - that’s far more likely to be Chinese EV brands like BYD. Similarly, it’s the Chinese-owned brand MG that currently sells the most affordable new EV in NZ…

Tesla is still trying to meet the demand for the cars they currently make. It wouldn't be the best move to add an even cheaper car to the mix when they can't currently make enough of what they already have. They're also back logger on already announced vehicles that they haven't been able to even start making yet, like the Cybertruck and Roadster.

Well that was quick. Yesterday noticed the VIN has been assigned to my Tesla order so hoping late February shipment.

Nice! I don't have a VIN yet, although I did get an email last week saying the car I had been assigned was on the boat for late Feb:

You have currently been assigned a vehicle that is making its way to New Zealand, expected ETA to our Auckland Delivery Center is late February.

Note2luvr: Hi all, just curious, how are people buying their new Tesla, are you doing finance, extending the house mortgage or just rolling in cash?

Hoping Tesla come out with a cheaper small hatchback runaround version so we can get into the EV world as well. Why haven’t they done this already?

Invested $20k in the stock market in 2016 when the Model 3 was announced. Was a bumpy road (lost $12k when one company went bankrupt) but we got there

Just got my invoice. No delivery date set yet but I have to assume that will be coming shortly if they're asking me to pay for it already!

What colour exterior/interior is/would everyone choose, the white interior looks fantastic.
Are EV buyers changing their home electricity plans to ones that have low cost off peak rates for charging or just sticking to generic plans, which look to be most ideal for this?

I ordered the black interior; white might stain long term?

In terms of power right now we are with Mercury and get 20% off between 11pm-7am. Depending on whether the quote for solar comes back looking doable we might change to PowerEdge who will buy at at least 14c/kWh, because with more WFH these days there are more opportunities to charge while the sun shines.

Lucky timing! I've been invoiced but no date communicated to me yet.

Great timing. Only thing they might miss out on - not that its going to be a major for most people - is the updated Ryzen chip (changed from Intel). It will depend on when their car was manufactured.
