Are EV buyers changing their home electricity plans to ones that have low cost off peak rates for charging or just sticking to generic plans, which look to be most ideal for this?

I'm looking at a couple of options:

Contact - free power between 9pm and midnight.

Genesis - 50% off rates between 9pm and 7am

I'm fairly confident I'll be able to get most of my charging done via a standard wall socket on most days during the 3 hour fee period with Contact, so effectively running costs for the Tesla would be free for the term of that contract.

Could also schedule other power hungry things to run then - dishwasher, dryer, washing machine, heat pump etc.

Sorry yes the 26th of Jan. Rep says it was a car of someone who had canceled

Lucky timing! I've been invoiced but no date communicated to me yet.

Going by what others have posted here you would think the cancelled car was probably ordered in Dec 21 (8-12 weeks I think someone said). For your relative to have snagged one with only a fortnight wait, I would assume they didn’t order a white RWD with black interior and aero wheels (the cheapest option), which seem to already be the most common.

The only downside being if you thought you had a couple of months cooling off period to decide if you’d made the right choice, and could cancel with only the loss of the $400 order fee, that period has shrunk significantly.

afik tesla always throw a few unallocated cars on the boat too but I guess that depends on orders and production etc.

Shanghai has been shipping a lot of cars the last month

Just saw the following clips on YT for third party addons that provide a speedometer etc. on the dash for a Model 3/Y like most cars and are integrated into the Tesla car's data bus and don't apparently void warranty

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ojcvZGgNrWw

These two range from $500-$700 (US)

This one looked the coolest but at US$800 a bit expensive

Installation they say is easy but if I were a Tesla 3 owner, I would ask a car stereo person to do it.

Think I would go for something minimal like a HUD

There several different versions of this. Some project onto a film on the windscreen, others have their own reflector. They are effectively OBD readers and connect to the port in the rear of the centre console. The difficulty comes in getting the right position in the windscreen screen and the long field focus correct. That is where OEM solutions will always be superior. However, it is a solution to primarily provide a readout of speed that is more in your eye line. Which would be the main factor for me in a car so silent and smooth when you are driving it manually.
That's a great demonstration by Bjorn in the video. These units are available on AliExpress for $70-100 but there is a huge buyer beware element to them.

I had a Hudway for a while in the Leaf. The main issue I had was getting it to stick to the dashboard. This compounded the other problem of getting a power cable to the phone. That, at least, I assume is less of an issue if you have a unit dedicated just to speed control running off the OBD port because the cable could be permanently hidden behind panels.

I'm surprised something like this is fitted as standard or a HUD which many cars have today.

We asked the jury and.. Its a beat up.

This isnt required for anything other than l3 or higher self driving, i.e. self driving where the driver isnt immediately available to take over with hands on the wheel already.

If/when you buy FSD and it gets distributed they will refit this.

Note a total lack of stories about how tesla have been fitting extra hardware all this time and saving the owners cost and haste if they did upgrade...

Maybe they should poll all the other manufacturers to see how many of them have been forced to do similar things? I reckon quite a few due to the chip shortage. Bit of tall poppying going on I think.
I don't really like the "like a box of chocolates" approach when you never know what you're going to get though. I wonder what the legal standpoint is if what arrives isn't the same as what you ordered? I would have thought they would have a duty to inform you if they change (leave out) something you thought you were getting. Wouldn't surprise me if there isn't a "Yeah, Nah, we can do what we like without telling you" clause* in the fine print though.

Gm have been permanently removing things like heated seats and stop start tech, BMW have removed touchscreens etc.

And that's just the stuff you can see and touch. I'm sure there will be other stuff that you can't interact with that's gone as well.
One particular BMW I enquired about had the hud, touchscreen and lumbar support removed from the spec. When I asked how much that reduced the price by, all I got was a blank stare (no reduction). Considering it was too expensive to start with, that just made things worse.

What I wonder is how long Tesla etc plan to support those massive touch panels long term, like 20 years from now your M3 screen dies will they still manufacture replacement parts to the same quality or abandon customers and leave third party companies to do it.
