If the price goes up/down during that period to you have to pay the new higher/lower price?
I wonder why the long delays, the Shanghai factory is pretty efficient isn’t it?

Your price is locked in at order time unless the price drops.

Shanghai is efficient but they only have ~250k a year of model 3 capacity for now. Demand is off the scale (in general for new cars, for EVs and tesla specifically).

RobDickinson:

OZ timelines for new model 3 has just blown out to 5-7 months, Europe is done till November minimum.

It might get to the ridiculous stage where you need to ‘book’ your next car in 2 years in advance! Nice problem for Tesla to have.

Once the Y is finally released in NZ, it will be interesting to see what the wait time is.

Looks like the UK Model Y lead time for a Long Range is May and the Performance is "late 2022"

Possibly? The Long Range and Performance Y in Hong Kong show as "Q2 2022", while the RWD shows as Q3

Just trying to get my head around Supercharger costs. For instance the one in Hamilton (The Base, Te Rapa) charges about 80c/kWh. So roughly 12.8c/km (@160W/km) for the Model 3. My Camry Hybrid does 5.2l/100km which even if I put petrol at $3/l is 15.6c/km. A disappointingly small difference. Obviously home charging is different where costs may be 90% less than the SC example above. The trip from West Auckland to Hamilton and Cambridge is one I do frequently.

I know there are infrastructure costs involved in setting up the sites, but this seems exorbitant, especially since the location is probably subsidised to be there by the shopping centre (for the green cred). And there is a public fast charger (175kW) a couple of blocks away that charges 60c/kWh. Admittedly it only seems to have 1 CCS and 1 CHAdeMO station but still illustrates that something is amiss. Likewise, the public (chargenet) ‘Hypercharger’ at the top of the Bombays is 60c/kWh.

SC in NZ isnt cheap, I guess fitting them isnt cheap either.

Remember the Chargenet chargers get public subsidy to be installed ($300k or so each) and tesla dont. I doubt they get kickbacks from the locations either more like a cost.

Plus Tesla owners are ‘Rich’. (Tongue in cheek).

Robertson has promised “big things” in the May 29 budget to do with CC. Hopefully that will include a useful investment in infrastructure. Including more fast charging sites.

Must be costing them a fortune. However it does explain why the SC rates are so high, because those without free miles are subsidising the early (non rebate) adopters.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Tesla turn around and say the miles will ‘expire’ after x number of years*.

*Not for X and S owners with lifetime Supercharging.

Tesla NZ recently revealed to the Owners Club that they're trying something new in NZ where they're matching the cost of Supercharging to the cost of fuelling a Corolla or C Class.

Well in other news I've given Tesla money and my car should be with me in the next few weeks.

I know technically I've paid them early but something to note is they need cleared funds meaning a standard bank transfer isn't counted as cleared funds to most businesses until 2 days later as then there is absolutely no way a dishonor can occur due to a fraudulent payment. The email I got asked me to pay before the 22nd of February. No loss to me as it is one less thing I need to do.
