Sometimes "warped" rotors are not in fact warped, but have high spots of transferred material buildup from the pads. Changing to a different pad compound will often work wonders - a more abrasive rather than adhesive pad would be worth trying.

If you are worried about you brakes being substandard then upgrade to slotted or drilled rotors and have some decent pads put in, not rubbish $50 pads from Repco. Bendix make heavy duty 4x4 pads.

The heavy duty pads will help avoid brake fade for longer as well as better stopping power. The upgraded rotors will help dissipate the heat faster.

If the vehicle is still under warranty changing the brake system from factory specification will likely impact the warranty.

The last Repco branded pads I bought were Federal Mogul ThermoQuiet, they stop well, have hardly any dust and don't squeal.

aftermarket rotors do have the potential to affect abs/esp etc.

forget slotted/cross drilled on a road car, they are a wank for showboaters, same goes for braided brake hoses.

don't use a race car analogy either, most race cars get their brakes stripped down and rebuilt after every major event, road cars do not.

on a road car rotors are a wearable item so no need to go wildly above stock spec; trw make very good replacements for subarus - cheaper than factory and better performing.

they also do a good replacement brake pad.

for a bit more performance look to bendix ultimates or ferodo formula/ts2000 - this is a road version of their famous ds2000 race pad - great performance but depending on car may need some warm before best performance. both are relatively affordable ~$250/pr

to go with the pad upgrade, change your brake fluid for a high performance type, eg elf htx115, motul rbf600

lastly, don't forget your tyres !
tyre type/model and condition can have a huge impact on braking performance.

if i want to save the subaru for travelling and use the nissan for the dirty urban taxi duties, how often should i run the subaru to prevent the bits from dying from lack of use? once a week ok?
