They stopped making policemen out of cardboard? When did that happen?

I really don't think 102 km/h could be called dangerous on NZ roads.

I also noticed in NZ that you get the same fine and points deduction if you are doing 109k that you get when doing 101k.
So why bother going slower if you are going to be caught anyway?

I had the pleasure of meeting quite a few drivers on Friday the 19th Dec driving from Auckland to near Kawakawa doing just that ,driving 80 kmph in 100 kmph sections of road, and suddenly they find the accelerator when the passing lane arrives and its dead straight and flat road.

Their limits are 50kmh town, 90kmh country 120kmh Motorway. Greece road death average is 14.9 per 100000 NZ is 10.1 United Kingdom 5.4. Not sure Greece is a good example.

100k? nah their foot gets very heavy and not uncommonly gas to 110 when it says "passing lane in 400m", then back to 80 after that.
ticket them? nah - where is my plasma cannon?

Interestingly, the cameras will still take a photo even if you are not speeding. You can see the purple flash as you go by, speeding or not.

To kiwinz: 130k on parts of the newer Greek expressways. Mostly 120 on other motorways, changes to 80 or 100 with road condition.

Raw death rates per head of population don't account for the actual risk profile, annual distance travelled by car per person, rural vs urban, motorway vs road, mountainous vs flat, traffic density, public vs private transport etc etc. They are not therefore a helpful comparison of relative road safety between countries.

It just seems odd that a certain speed in NZ is purportedly dangerous and unsafe but the same speed elsewhere on the world when all other factors are identical is perfectly safe and even sedate.

It just seems odd to use Greece as an example. Your personal experience and real statistics are two different things.

Those ones are on top of a van normally. The ones I have driven past at well under 50k have been on the bumper of a car.

scuwp: Here we go again, yet another "I am a perfect driver therefore the rules don't apply to me" thread. Some people need some lessons in basic physics. Slow down, obey the road rules, and enjoy the drive = no revenue gathering. Simple really.

Here we go again: yet another commenter unfamiliar with gz culture getting blindsided by attitudes that are completely at odds to what you'd see at stuff or nzherald.

It's just a shame that this contrary perspective doesn't extend to rejecting selfish short-sighted views such as "life's not fair" and "the free market is always right - as long as I'm not suffering"

I wouldn't necessarily consider speeding as doing 85kmh in a reduced 80kmh zone. With the ludicrous tolerance reduction, that 85kmh will see you ticketed.

Driving a large car, you only have to look away from the odometer for all of 10 seconds and easily creep up 5-10kmph without noticing.

Agreed with this, it's ridiculous, could possibly explain why everyone drives 20km/h under the speed limit.
