Depends on the price premium attached, or if your idelology (ie not a fossil burner) overrides aesthetics/costs.

Climate change isn't about ideology.

It's about climate change. It affects everyone.....whatever their ideology might be. :-)

My point is, some people don't care (or in the case of Trump believe it's real). So for individuals that is a factor in when there they pay the price premium/ignore the scarcity of choice (over ICEs)that is currently attached to Evs and phevs.

I really like the idea of EVs if it can be made to stand on its own two feet, I really do. I like that they are quiet and pollution free (as far as emissions are concerned... they may have other pollution drawbacks though).

But as far as climate is concerned, I don't care at all. It's not going to make any difference to the climate even if all of NZ moves to EV.  48% of our emissions are from agriculture, only 20% is from all forms of transport and electricity is 10%. Presumably the electricity number will go up with increased EV use.

I was going to add towing the boat, but see that the model X as a 2.5T towbar option. Nice.

That sort of thinking isn't viable, to be honest. Each and every one of us can make an argument "My emissions don't matter. I'm too small."

It's false argument. It is our collective emissions that ARE the problem and each and every one of has to be part of the solution.

Or there is no solution.

Once the range gets to 400km or more for everyday cars......you'll be able to drive from Auckland to Wellington more or less as you do now with perhaps a single 30 min stop at a 350kw Tesla Supercharger (or similar) somewhere around Taupo or Turangi. The cost of that is a fraction of petrol. Right now, using charge.net, I get 100km range for about $6. Compare that to petrol. For diesel, the RUC alone for 100km is $6.30.

As I do now would be a 5-10 minute stop at Bulls:  Re-fuel, empty bladder, grab a coffee and food to go and change drivers.

The charging windows when I road-trip are: -

1) Overnight;

2) Inter-island ferry. Is recharging available on board the ferries?

It's national (and maybe regional) policy settings that can most effectively change behaviour.  Global agreements have failed, because they are unenforceable.

There is no solution at all without drastic emissions reductions by the big 4 total emitter nations (US, Russia, China and India).

If everyone in NZ goes zero carbon but the big 4 do nothing (current policy) it's still "good night nurse".

I had my reservation before April 1st, so should get the self-driving for free.....but I would want a bigger battery so will pay more for that. The rest? Not fussed.

really ?

would April 2nd in NZ be the same ?

is this documented ?

And our total contribution to global warming is about half of one percent.

That is one UGLY car.

American styling. Imo they look nicer on the road than in pictures.

Elon Musk is really a South African, so all credit in that department should go to the jappies :-)

Actually the car is styled by Franz von Holzhausen, previously from Mazda. See the resemblance?

I do, but it's clearly styled for the American market. Pontiac design cues etc.

We're talking about NZ and EV. What I said was we could go 100% EV and it wouldn't make a difference so... nope.
