For the pedestrian crossing you have to give way, "if necessary, slow down and stop the driver’s vehicle for that purpose."
If you slow down enough that the pedestrians can cross that's all you have to do although many don't trust a car that hasn't stopped. The Stop sign obviously requires a complete stop. Somebody on this forum once said his company policy was for drivers to stop then check traffic, not to try and see if the way was clear as you rolled up.

By the way. This is a fun little intersection in Paraparaumu Beach.

Am I supposed to do a full stop at the white or yellow line? Or both?

In case this isn't clear:

  • stop where you can see vehicles coming from all directions

So full stop at both lines? Or just yellow?

You stop at white line for pedestrians crossing. You stop at yellow line for the STOP sign.

Must be a full stop - as in the wheels stop moving , feel yourself lurch back in the seat.

If you lurch back in your seat, you are accelerating 😀.  Stopping you would lurch forward, although if I have passengers I prefer to avoid lurching altogether.

I believe not quite. If you're decelerating at a constant rate, then your muscles are already pushing you back in your seat to make sure you decelerate with the car.

If the deceleration suddenly stops, because the car reaches zero speed, your muscles will still be pushing you back for a fraction of a second until your brain catches up.

My friend's daughter recently sat her restricted test. She told me she rolled straight through a stop sign during the test, and the assessor said "We'll just pretend you didn't do that".

She passed the test.
