Geektastic:

"Together with the article, World Economic Forum posted a video "8 Predictions for the World in 2030" to its website,[2] Facebook[3] and Twitter[5] (tweet no longer available). The first prediction in the video, based on Auken's essay, states "You'll own nothing and you'll be happy. Whatever you want you'll rent and it'll be delivered by a drone." The video (shown below) accumulated over 9,900 reactions and 766,000 views on Facebook in five years."

Obviously, BMW have taken this advice to heart!

I am surprised they have not stopped selling the cars outright as well - after all, leasing is already extant and a form of subscription in effect.

no attempt to mask hidden agenda by capitalists. that would make the rich get richer obviously, now they have WEF to carry their flag.

I own a Model 3; had 'Full Self Drive' been available here as a subscription, I would be all over it as $5700 for 'coming soon' is a lot of money.

Even the $5700 I did pay for Enhanced Autopilot when it was made available is a lot of money for something that stays with the car (in the event I sell it, or crash it)

In the situation you total the car in an accident, will your car insurance pay for this? (I understand some policies may provide for this?)

From my perspective I'd never pay for a FSD/Enhanced Autopilot option or whatever silly marketing name is used no matter whether it was a PAYD (Pay As You Drive) subscription or as an outright up front payment.  I might be old fashioned but I like to do and get pleasure out of doing somethings myself and driving my car is one of them.

Reading all these posts, I am quite pleased my Triton VRX has heated seats, auto everything lights as standard.

Same here with my car, but I'd be unlikely to pay extra for somethings, for example; parking assist, lane keep assist, and dare I say it heated seats which I do like very much this time of the year.

The auto lights and auto wipers are really nice too, as are the auto heated side mirrors and the active noise reduction but would I pay extra for them? Probably not.

Some things like the auto emergency breaking/collision warning, lane keep assist, blind side alerts, (and many other hidden features) are there to enhance the cars safety rating. Manufacturers will fit them anyway to meet safety rating targets so are unlikely to fall under a subscription offering.

If you tell your insurance company so they can increase the coverage value then yes, they will.

Thinking back to my last car purchase, a subscription or DLC would've actually been a good option.

Got a basic model of Suzuki Vitara - the upgrade option was basically an all-or-nothing approach. Either you get the basic version, or you get the turbo version with all the bells and whistles (e.g. keyless entry and push to start, parking sensors, blind spot warning signals, heated seats, etc).

A DLC alternative where you can enable some of these features via subscription would've been pretty cool.

It crossed my mind the other day to increase my coverage
