"In future, the app won't require RealMe verification and an alternative log in will be available."

Heh, so they totally appreciate that Realme is a bag of hammers, and will offer an alternative once in production...

Must make DIA feel great , they've been searching for a "killer app" to make Realme the centre of the universe for ages, and it looks like one of their best prospects has wriggled out of their grasp.....

Downloaded the app earlier this afternoon. Quite like it, very easy to use.

I get the error "no licence found" after logging in with my verified RealMe. My licence is active and the name matches my RealMe details. 🤷

RealMe wouldn't work from the App using Android Edge, but would if Chrome made the default browser. If I separately used Edge to load my RealMe pages, it works fine.

Bit underwhelmed at this stage, does nothing that isn't in my diary anyway. Time will tell.

Interesting to note that I entered all the household vehicles into the app, even if they are not in my name. Privacy issues?? That said I can find that same info by looking at someone's windscreen, but the scale is orders of magnitude different. Hopefully this means that if I post my Reg, one of you will pay for another 10,000 km of RUCs 🤣🤣.

I noticed that too. You would think it would have some form of ownership field to verify. Be it a known address or surname registered to.

But no, you can add any ol one.

I quite like how one of my vehicles is coming for renewal of it's licence (rego) and how obvious this is in the app. It tells me how many days to go and I can tap the notification and get sent to the NZTA website (same with RUC's) to do the renewal. The NZTA app team tells me they are working on allowing in-app payments for both of these rather than shelling out to the NZTA website.

I like the idea of having rego and WoF all in one place, but not a fan of digital licenses. I don't see an issue of carrying my license, I take my wallet and keys everywhere I go no matter if I'm driving or not. I do hope it's not a replacement for physical licenses in the far-future.

Right, figured out the problem

I have two middle names, (well in-between names I suppose) but only one on my licence. So real me and and NZTA don't match.

Funny, they still know its me when I owe them money :)

"Verified" is not a new thing. I have had two passports issued online using RealMe Verified ID. And this app made me check my current status - expires in a month, so I just re-done the online verification.

One week from renewal application to approval:

Presumably not on an iPhone, or they'd have to pay Apple a 30% commission?

I think bill paying is exempt from the whole 30% commission thing..

I certainly don't pay 30% more to pay my One NZ bill, or top up my online Coffee card via their apps

Seems the app is live now; noticed a FaceBook post today:

Our app is now available in app stores!
Manage your vehicles, renew rego, buy RUC, and view licence details with the NZTA App.
You can download from app stores below or by searching NZTA Waka Kotahi in the app store.
Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details...
App Store: https://apple.co/3Yqo3Nm

You can find more information about the app on our website: nzta.govt.nz/app

This must be why there was an update yesterday.

Interesting to see they've removed the RealMe Verified requirement, although you still need this to access some parts of the application.

Pretty basic at the moment, but hopefully they can iterate on it quickly.
