Well today I took delivery of my Model 3 Long Range (in Gray).

So far - loving it. However the app for me is still not activated by Tesla. The car also arrived a little dusty and at 35% charge. On inspection however there were no faults and the exterior is perfect. The USB Flash Drive did however take some effort to connect but will be replacing this with a larger SSD anyway to take advantage of Tidal downloads also.

For insurance - in the end went with Star Insurance. InsureMyTesla were one of the most expensive quotes I got and Trademe, whilst the cheapest, are Tower who have a terrible rating.

Using Electric Kiwi for power (still) on their MoveMaster plan. This is in no way an endorsement as I will be also looking into other providers too (interested what everyone is using here).

Congrats!

In terms of power companies, I've moved over to Contact to take advantage of their "Good Nights" plan: free power between 9PM and Midnight. I also swapped out a 10A power socket for a 15A socket. This should provide around 20-25km per hour of charge which at 3 hours per night, will be more than enough to cover my average daily consumption, effectively making the running costs free (until November when the plan ends, hopefully it continues in some form or another).

Get the car in a couple of weeks...

I narrowed down to Genesis EV plan and Meridian. Went with Genesis in the end. I believe it was the lowest off peak rate which they do not like to publish with a reasonable peak and daily fixed charge rate. Installed a 32a Tesla wall charger and we only charge the car once a week off peak. Very rarely will we use more the 50 - 60% for regular town driving. If we’re going to the Bach like this weekend will have to do another charge.

My power bill has actually gone down slightly overall with new plan and six months of EV usage.

Where did you pickup from? I picked up from the Auckland centre - all the cars there including mine were immaculately clean, and mine was charged to 90%.

Picked up from the delivery company here in Wellington in Grenada Village (The Car Distribution Group) and dropped off my trade-in at the same time. I suspect if I picked up on the actual pickup date (tomorrow) it may have been cleaned but I was impatient :)

1 - if it wasnt from the showroom/Auckland delivery did you reply to the email saying you have the car?

2 - afik tidal stores songs on the MCU's drive not the USB disk with no option to move it (for now). Youc an play mp3/flac fom the usb desperately tho but you'll need 2 partitions.

Even with Texas and Berlin coming on line they can’t keep up. Or is it they are focused on the Y and 4WD versions of the 3?

Neither of the new factories have model 3 lines for now. It'll be at least a year if they get built

Am I correct in saying that only the lowest model 3 is available for the Clean Car Discount? Seems like the long range is a couple of thousand over the threshold?

Do you think after 31 March the Clean Car Discount will apply to the more expensive models? Sorry I haven't been following this.

No, at this stage the rules stay the same - $80k is the limit.

You also have to add on delivery and orc etc so it would need a drop of $5k or something , not going to happen

Didn't take long for the cameras to catch a winner. Came out of the driveway this morning, accelerated up to 80, which is the speed limit, and then --
