scuwp: RUC's were a legal requirement from 1 April, the 2 month grace period just prevents you being prosecuted. Come 1 June you could be liable for getting a ticket. NZTA will also send you an invoice for any unpaid distance. If you wait 3 years that bill could be quite high, not to mention risking some big fines.

whats the fine these days? the fine used to be the price of the ruc, plus having to pay the ruc.

It was 3X the amount owing for decades (plus having to bring it up to date). Not sure if that's changed.

My WoF is due, kinda curious if it gets mentioned.

Anyone notice the online admin fee is $12.44 for each purchase?
That's rough given it's digital, I'm kinda sick of that concept, just build it into the price.
It's the same as paying admin on a digitally delivered concert ticket, and one per ticket too.

Yeah, over the previous 54 pages of this thread, it is discussed multiple times.

Its digital in the purchase of it, but It's still physically sent out in the mail.

So not like concert tickets that you can print yourself.

The annoying part is you can't pay for RUC online for two or more vehicles and combine the fee in a single transaction, you need to work through the process for each vehicle separately and pay the fee separately.

You're right it is not purely digital fee, but why is the fee for that label $12.44, when the fee to send my registration label out last year was only $3.74. Both require a physical label to be sent, both require a backend IT system (likely the same system), the only difference is the RUC requires a couple of extra numbers to be stored to track the mileage. I think it makes sense to have an admin fee to reflect the actual cost, but don't see how they calculated this one.

Apart from the fact they literally send you a PDF to print out to be used until the real one arrives. But if a home-printed one is OK at all, why isn't it just OK altogether?

The only thing I could think of is how well the home printed one would stand up to being out in the sun all day?

Since I didn’t have a window pocket to put mine in, I just had the home printed one in the centre console. I figured, since it was prior to 31 May, if asked for it I could just show them. Not to say I wouldn’t have got fined for not displaying it, but I would hope common sense would prevail in the grace period.

edit: For those of you yet to get yours, they send a window pocket out with the first label.

The government are looking at doing away with windscreen stickers, how long it that likely to take?

RUC should absolutely just be tied to your number plate, and not need extra things stuck in the window. Won't need an admin fee then, and no waste to landfill. Long overdue.

Having registration and WOF stickers on the windscreen is useful for me in my role on the residents' association. Cars occasionally get abandoned in our housing complex and it's useful to be able to see whether the WOF and reg are current when I'm making a judgement call on whether a car is likely to be abandoned.

I'm not sure about the fee BUT you can buy multiple plates at once. Once you pop your name, plate and amount of kms in click continue, the next page gives you a summary with an option to add another plate.

Yeah I just kept mine in the car but didn't go out of my way to remember to leave it on the dashboard when parked or anything...

This still charges you the transaction fee for each plate. :-/
