At this stage, this does basically kill all hope for a Model Y variant falling under the rebate threshold, even if the RWD version does come here.

That’s depressing reading for someone who’s been waiting for ages to be able to order one… I’m becoming increasingly resigned to the idea of missing out on the rebate, but the waiting is even more frustrating. I mean I’ve even reached the point of debating whether I should go back and consider an Ioniq 5, despite not having been excited by my first drive!

Are there any other ‘affordable’ mid-sized EVs with decent boot space on the horizon? Love the look of the EV6, but boot seems to be quite a bit smaller than the Ioniq 5.

I suspect it's a lot to do with the EDD that's forcing the price up. They're basically almost sold out for 2022, so good old supply and demand pushing up the price.

Price of raw materials has shot up, Nickel, lithium, aluminium etc its all gone mad. remember these price rises are for cars tesla will be making 6+ months out. If things change they can always drop the price before delivery, they have before.

As for the mythical RWD Y it'll be $82k and up now going on these prices, I cant see it below the 80k limit.

So do the government need to adjust the limit to account for (gasp) inflation? 8% would mean a limit of $86.4K.

With the most recent $2K price hike and the rebate dropping to $7500 from 1 April, anyone ordering an M3 today is paying $5600+ more than people that ordered last Christmas. And wait 6-9months.

I guess they are hoping EVs will get cheaper over time.

It has things that change over time built in, the co2 limits drop, the rebate values drop, the 80k limit I dont think has anything...

The rebate has not dropped. You are missing the GST from it.

Ah, that makes sense. I wondered why the rebate was a random figure like $8625, but obviously $7500+gst. So people not $1125 worse off after all.

But it’s a shame the limit isn’t gst exclusive then.

If the Model Y RWD will still be within your price range and you really liked the Model 3 when you tried it (minus the dimensions) then I'd hang on. You're unlikely to get either the EV6 or Ioniq 5 before the Model Y anyway, they're also all sold out

The difference is, though, I already know the price of the Ioniq 5 and can order it now (with a delivery delay), whereas that's not possible with the Y...

But, looking at this today, I am really not impressed with the options packages with the Ioniq 5 - one of the things I loved about the Model 3 was the light, airy cabin thanks to the glass roof; to replicate that in the Hyundai one must select the top-spec Limited, which only comes in 4WD (I'm probably ok with that) and also grey leather interior (which I'm not, given the two greebles/children that sit in the back!) - and that pushes the price up from $90k to $110k.

So, yeah, it could well be that I just need to be patient and wait for the Y's release here; I totally admit the 3 was a far more interesting car to drive, and a much more appealing car to sit in, than the Ioniq 5. But still, are there really no other options on the horizon?!

You could have ordered a model 3 sr+ ages ago and already been driving around in it for months whilst still able to resell it at a higher price....

heavenlywild: That's not my experience.

I received an email and text message straight away after payment.

I guess I had best call them again. Last time I tried their phone was terrible and I could hardly understand them.

You could try the online chat option instead. If you go to the Order page (where you design the car) there should be a chat bubble in the bottom left.

You may have forgotten the reason I need the Y over the 3 is the boot space; if it was just an electric car I wanted I could have filled that void ages ago - it's that I need it to be able to function as a 'family' car.

I get that you believe the boot of the 3 is adequate, but TBF that's in relation to it meeting your needs. My needs are for a car that is roomy enough to take four people and all their luggage on holiday... without a doubt a 3 ain't going to cut it...

Oh, man, you really are a dog with a bone!

As it happens, we already often use a roof box on my ICE station wagon - buying a car with a smaller boot is not an option.

End. Of. Story.
