Our MG ZS ev is coming up for it's 2nd yearly service. The first one cost us $140ish from memory and involved checking and topping up fluids, cleaning the car, checking electricals, battery SOH and a few other things off the top of my head. It may have included tyre rotation. I have heard that this may vary from dealer to dealer as I've had other MG owners mention different prices to what we were charged.

I spent about $600 in nearly 5 years on the Leaf. I am considering getting an inspection on the Tesla (41,000km). Not because I suspect there's anything wrong with it, but more because it's a much bigger investment than any other car I've ever had...

As a tip, if you have something minor that you've noticed that would be a warranty claim, put a Service Request in for that and while Tesla have the car they'll do a general inspection and fix up any outstanding bulletins.

With only 4000km/7 months left on my warranty I thought it might be worth them just having a quick check of it before I have to start paying for stuff. As it happens, with the new availability of Service Mode when I went in there it had two active alerts for non-functioning footwell and map pocket lights - yet they were working fine. I booked a service and they had me try some things from the menu to clear the alerts but they remained active so they told me to bring it in. Turns out it needed a control module to be reset which cleared the alerts but they also proactively replaced the 12v battery which wasn't something I requested so that was welcomed and they also did a general look over. Didn't have to pay a thing and they gave me Uber credits to get between work and the SC 🙂

most likely insufficient orders, or maybe they don't want to spend money on a gigapress for the RHD

It means the value of second-hand RHD Model S and X vehicles is going to increase since they can't be purchased anymore.

So it sounds like, at least at this stage, electric vehicles aren't really that practical if you can't charge at home?

Depends.

Are you within eScooter range of a Warehouse with free 25kW chargers outside?

Is your home/work close to some 50kW+ chargers?

friend lives in the Auckland CBD and has a Polestar 2. No charging at her apartment.

just uses chargenet or the public free vector ones. No issues.

auckland metro needs a few hyper chargers tho. 50-300KWH. But with 400+ range, it’s not an issue really.

Except there are now plenty more options for people who want to spend $150-200K on an EV.

The Tesla Model 2 (or mini) will be a far more important vehicle for NZ.

What the RHD move may portend for the Cybertruk is a different matter.

Could mean that they are pivoting production capacity to better selling models?

I expect the model 2 or whatever it will be called, the revamped model 3 and model Y are maybe more important to them.

There have been statements that they want to increase production/sales and that they want to make EV's more affordable.
