In other news, not related to NZ but still EV news...it looks like the CCS1 connector is dead in North America. GM just announced today that they too will be transitioning to the NACS connector with their own deal done with Tesla to have access to the Supercharger network.

WOW!

That's pretty much Game Over in North America then: both Ford & GM have capitulated and adopted Tesla's proprietary connector as "industry standard". That will put all the other manufacturers who hope to be in the North American BEV market in a terrible negotiating position with Tesla.

Yeah I guess at this point you can't really call it Tesla's proprietary connector anymore when other companies are now adopting it. I don't believe Tesla is charging to use it either.

Skoda has re-updated their site again with the $79k price. It is indeed for the 82kWh version. Not as fast as the cheaper Model Y, but more range.

Any idea if the Enyaq does V2L? I've taken a look in the specs and can't see it mentioned aywhere. A quick google search found something from the Drivelife NZ review but little else.

What influence does this have in regard to V2G/V2H functionality across the EV landscape. Tesla doesn't offer V2G as an option assumedly due to this conflicting with Powerwall marketability so does their connection system being adopted industry wide restrict other EV makes' ability to offer V2G functionality?

If it's based on the VW ID platform it looks like it might: https://www.cleanenergyreviews.info/blog/bidirectional-ev-charging-v2g-v2h-v2l

The Enyaq drives and handles very well. I dare say the best of the sub 80k.

Tesla doesn't currently, but at a recent investors meeting they revealed that it's something they're looking into for the future.

I wonder if they may be about to offer the 60kWh Enyaq version to get in under the rebate limit? Although, that’s not how that screen grab from their website reads. I really hope it is the way it looks.

In some Euro countries the Enyag 50 is offered below a Model Y and Skoda confirmed this is in response to MY sales

I suspect Skoda NZ will only bring in the 50/60 if market forces continue to excert pressure.

At least Skoda NZ have some to their senses on the previously overpriced Enyag 80

It also has one more year warrenty than the MY

Good to see competition is starting to take effect in the market

Skoda Enyaq now $79k eligible for the $7k rebate. Deliveries Oct-Dec 2023. Maybe a better deal than the Model Y now?

So I wonder what happens to the people that ordered it (Enyaq) at $94K?

I know what I’d like to see. I also know what some dealers may be like.

I will certainly be revisiting the dealer to have a proper test drive and to see if it has the same level of appointment, or whether they have gone “poverty pack” to bring the price down.

And, of course, there is still the problem of VW Group cars being “offline” in the Antipodes.

I certainly think the Enyaq now offers a totally viable alternative to the MY, especially for those looking for a spacious EV. I’d have taken a good look at it (and had hoped to before I bought a Y), as it’s the only other EV under the rebate limit that would work for us a ‘family wagon’. Benefits include the larger battery (and range) and apparently larger boot (but don’t think it has a frunk?); it’s certainly less grunty than the MY (150 kW/310 Nm vs 239/430) and a bit slower (8.6 vs 6.9).

I’d be keen on taking one for a test drive to see how the entry model stacks up; VWG is pretty good at limiting features (or charging extra) on their lower-spec cars, so it’ll be interesting to see what’s missing compared to the MY. I imagine its less firm than the Y, which wouldn’t be a bad thing…

Good point - had forgotten this. While I do find some Tesla 'updates' seem to be downgrades, overall I'd miss the many good changes made. In even the 10 months I've had the car there have been so many positive changes.

According to the site below the reduced price Enyaq Sportline offers "the same high-specification and arrival dates as already released".  Presumably implies no change in spec?

while it drives amazingly well, i wouldn't call it spacious. it's the size of a small-medium wagon but bigger than a hatchback.

having said that i have not compared with a model Y as there is no showroom in Dunedin.

I'm looking at the Y (order is in, still deciding to go through with it) but curious if the full-send into the future with no buttons etc will piss me off. Skoda (and others) offer an easier transition to the EV world.

The Y has amazing space inside the cabin and boot though which is appealing.
