kawaii: police actually enforcing what are supposed to be some pretty basic rules - indicating for starters. It is all very well being 'tough' on the test but if you don't follow it up with actual enforcement of the rules then in reality it is in one ear and out the other for most people.

Oh and the 1984 driving test was around the block 1 set of lights 1 stop sign and 1 give-way no hill start no parallel park and no reversing passed with flying colours and was also given my motorbike license at the same time :)
Explains heaps of Kiwi drivers ;P

can't be done when those who are supposed to enforce the laws don't follow them themselves, I followed a cop in to Tamatea in Napier one afternoon he failed to indicate twice once coming off the roundabout and once turning left into Tamatea so I followed him to the community police station pulled up beside him got out of my car and tore two strips off him.. He was not impressed and tried to argue the fact I simply said you didn't have you red/blues going so it obviously was not an emergency you have no excuse except for being lazy and thinking you could get away with it because your a cop well now you haven't (didn't let on I'm good friends with a senior detective in Napier) but told him I'd be laying an complaint and will follow it up

Btw, why are they going to put a limit on a learners licence? what about those of us who only have an interest in riding a scooter? why should I be fleeced out of several hundred dollars by the driving instructor industry cartel just so I can remain on the road by acquiring a higher licence that I'll never need?
IlDuce:
Secondly the rule about sitting restricted in automatic trans car, means auto trans becomes condition on licence until full is sat... is that the case now, has it always been?

That's how it is now, and this is a fairly recent change in the system. It never used to be like this.
Once you pass your full it doesn't matter what you drive.

drgshah: I'am on a restricted licence and usually stick to the 95-100km/hr mark on highways only to see others pass me at speeds over 120 and some even give me the look as they pass. Makes me feel like a kid driving his small kiddo car.
People are so impatient that they would drive so close behind me waiting for an opportunity to overtake even when I'am driving at 100km/hr. That puts further pressure on a novice driver (I still have L plates displayed on my car). How are these people allowed to drive, how do they pass their tests?
