Red light runner, or was the green for the motorcycle also visible to the car. The John St lights in Wellington used to be notorious for showing the same lights to 2 Streets if the lights twisted on the support pole. The lights are now separated.

Yep, I wondered the same thing. Seemed more like a genuine mistake to me with a bit of road rage from the motorcyclist.

Who was happy to leave his bike blocking a lane.

No, I use that road every day (in a car) - the motorcyclist is on the exit from the Downtown carpark on to Fanshawe St. There are two lights facing the traffic where the red car was, and they go red quite some time before the ones further up (at the intersection with Hobson St) go red (so that the section between the first set and second set can clear out, so people can actually exit the car park). I always check to make sure people are stopped at those lights, as I have seen them run a few times.

It is possibly bad design, though, as people may be looking at the lights ahead at the intersection, and not the ones where the car park exit joins the road. No excuse for running the reds though, and there was another car stopped there in that video. The car driver may have mistakenly run the red, but he nearly took out another road user doing it.

No matter the root cause I still say it looked like a genuine mistake rather than an attempt to run a red light.

Motorcyclist posts video driving 200kmh and overtaking on narrow hill road

Now that is AN IDIOT.

Stuff.co.nz news today with video from his own incriminating helmet cam video which the idiot then posted on Youtube under is own name. The video also shows his plate number and the speedo speed. Police are investigating. Well I hope they throw the book at him but he will properly get six months disqualification and 100 hrs community service. Personally I think they should permanently take his bike of him and sell it and disqualify his bike license for life.

Talk about "Darwin Awards" the sooner the better for all our safety.

Something interesting about that bike video.  The front car was going so slowly, a push bike was catching up to them.  The driver of the blue car probably shouldn't be on the road either due to their obvious incompetence.

Not a muppet concern, but I'm wondering - why do some people turn off their headlights when in a fast food drive-thru at night? What's the point? What do they achieve?

Not blinding the car in front. It's just considerate.

It's a thing? I've never considered it. Mind, don't use them by night.

Right up there with turning the radio down to find the building/address you are going to for the first time? :P

You're only going to blind the person in front if you're in a vehicle with headlights mounted high - like an SUV or a ute - or if you've got your lights on full, which you ought not.

For everyone else, it's pointless.

Damn near every car on the road is an SUV these days.

The lights from car behind can get you in the eyes via rear view mirrors.

Courtesy never hurts.

All those SUVs make it pretty clear their owners aren't really thinking ahead........(climate change)....and what the impact of all that extra CO2 will be on their kids (and mine...and yours).

Then many of them roar down the highway over the speed limit.....further maximising their waste of fuel and the generation of CO2 beyond what the legal speed limit allows.

I love catching up to them at the next lot of road works. All that extra fuel wasted......for literally nothing.

Petrol and diesel CAN'T be expensive.....or people wouldn't break the law to waste it.

Muppets on the road.....

I am amazed at the number of motorcycles that I see on any day here in Christchurch without their lights on!

And the Road Code says it is a requirement. Are they actually that suicidal?

Some are certainly hard to see without their lights on, especially with the riders choice of clothing / motorcycle colour etc.
