I'm guessing a boat that holds 3,000L of diesel doesn't fit on road trailer.  That's ~2.5T of fuel.

It weighs about 25 tonne so a difficult trailering proposition!

*Slaps Ford Ranger Raptor* 25 tons? F'in kids stuff with this mother!

An acquaintance of mine fits 3000L of diesel into his boat.

And yet....

https://nzta.govt.nz/driver-licences/getting-a-licence/licences-by-vehicle-type/transporting-dangerous-or-hazardous-goods/schedule-1-of-the-land-transport-rule-dangerous-goods-2005

"Quantity limits for dangerous goods transported for domestic or recreational purposes, for use as tools-of-trade, for agricultural use or for a commercial purpose, but not transported for hire or direct reward."

Class 3 Hazardous Goods, "Diesel with a flash point of 60°C or less is classified as UN 1202, GAS OIL or DIESEL FUEL or HEATING OIL, LIGHT, class 3, packing group III." - Max Qty 250L

Class 9 Diesel with a flash point over 60°C, classified as UN 3082, ENVIRONMENTALLY HAZARDOUS SUBSTANCE, LIQUID, N.O.S. (diesel)" Packing group III, Max Qty 2000L

See also https://nzta.govt.nz/driver-licences/getting-a-licence/licences-by-vehicle-type/transporting-dangerous-or-hazardous-goods/transporting-dangerous-goods-for-domestic-or-recreational-use

It's been >20 years since I last completed a D (Dangerous Goods) endorsement for my drivers license, but it's still revealing how silly people will be transporting bulk fuel.

Note the Hazardous substance rules generally exclude fuel in vehicle tanks.

With your first link, if you find the core rule there is a carve out in section 1.2 https://nzta.govt.nz/assets/resources/rules/docs/dangerous-goods-2005-as-at-1-april-2021.pdf

The second link has a clause where it states that filling your vehicles fuel tank is not considered suppling the container.

I think the reasons are just practicality.

Scientists prove that a company car can tow twice the weight that the Ranger can.

Trunp/Iran agree to Pakistan's 2 week ceasefire with Hormuz opening:

https://edition.cnn.com/2026/04/07/world/live-news/iran-war-trump-us-israel

Feels like a small win for Iran? Will be good to see the S. Korean and Singapore refineries get supplied with crude.

[Correction] Trump says Iran will agree. I don't think there's anyone in Iran who can do the agreeing though.

IRD are going to have to increase substantially and quickly the amount per KM that business can claim mileage  for at this rate. Some business may not be able to afford to operate  with these sorts of increases, especailly if they aren't able to increase prices.

There's no doubt rising fuel costs are difficult for everyone.  Nevertheless, fuel costs are only one (relatively small) part of the rate-per-km that can be claimed against the IRD - at least for the first 14000km, where other fixed costs like depreciation are much more signfiicant.  So, a  business that is so critically reliant upon a rate rise in IRD reimbursement to compensate for the rise in fuel costs over the short term is tenuous at best.

Businesses do have the option of claiming actual costs vs the rate-per-km method:
https://www.ird.govt.nz/income-tax/income-tax-for-businesses-and-organisations/types-of-business-expenses/claiming-vehicle-expenses

I'm sure rates will be adjusted over the longer term, assuming fuel costs remain high.  The rise in petrol/diesel and concerns about energy security, should also drive some businesses to making longer term decisions to modernise and electrify their fleets.

100%. I just wanted to make the point that stockpiling in improvised ways is both illegal and dangerous.

LOL. Couple of interesting things about that one: 1) it excludes on-water outside of AIS tracking and 2) it shows the MSO minima for each type.

I think this has shown what a huge risk a nuclear power would be to NZ. If a world leader wanted to take a country out and threaten them, they could just target that.  A nuclear disaster would kill the country. Hopefully this’s crazy LNG generation plan is also now not going to happen and instead the government can build renewable to create that buffer the broken electricity sector needs. Selling off power companies and privatisation has had a major cost for NZers down the track.

That news breaking is only a couple of hours old. Brent price was fairly high last night.

Also, Brent price captures the price of oil for physical delivery to the north sea. Oil is a lot more scares in this part of the world and ships to move it around are very expensive at the moment.

And the cost of refining has spiked.

As geeks, we are not supposed to be math-challenged...

The guy who said 3000 L of Diesel weighed 2.5 T was correct.
He didn't need 'correcting' to a wrong-by-a-factor-of-ten 25 T !

i thought he was talking about a 25-tonne boat that holds those 3000L. that could very well be true and accurate.
