Tesla has announced today they've opened their Supercharger network to non-Tesla EVs at the following sites:
Auckland (seven chargers), Christchurch (four chargers), New Plymouth (three chargers), Timaru (six chargers), Rotorua (six chargers), and Queenstown (four chargers)

Thankfully the NZ charging network isn't bad but for a Tesla owner it is somewhat worrying given charging cables are short (designed for Tesla) and many cars have the charging ports on the wrong side meaning they may be taking up 2 chargers for Tesla owners. So there may be a chance I may arrive at a Supercharger thinking 2 spots are available but have 2 cars taking up all 4 chargers.
The thing with the Supercharger network is they're super reliable and normally in the cars screen you know how many chargers are available but this adds another hurdle to that problem.

Well, there was a power outage up here in Rodney last night thanks to fallen trees.
Fridge, freezer, water pump and router (obviously) plugged into the car. Got home ~90% charge; by the next morning it was 82% - so we can definitely run the essentials for a couple of days off the car while still leaving enough to spare to get to Orewa or Warkworth to recharge it. I didn't have the hot water plugged into it but that comes from two LPG infinity heaters so they only use ~100W meaning we could easily use those too and still be under 10A.

Well done @SaltyNZ. Your set-up raises a few points and definitely demonstrates that a typical EV battery's capacity is more than enough to run a typical NZ home's requirements. After all a Powerwall is 13.5kWh and a couple of those is sufficient to do the job, though with an investment similar to some new EVs. Roll on V2G/V2H.
The other thing that comes to mind is to whether it is possible to use a Leaf's stored energy through a V2L connection. Chademo is bidirectional so can an AC supply be derived from it, with the help of a simple connector similar to that used by MG, BYD, etc for V2L, or is an additional inverter needed to get the job done? In other words is the Leaf's onboard inverter able to work in reverse so to speak?
This product is designed for the North American market/voltage and I'm guessing it incorporates an inverter of some sort but no price given. Anybody out there pursued this idea further?

There is also this unit that does do V2L (despite the website calling it V2H) but the price looks to be "(about £3k)".

Some new tools to help put put an EV fire.
everettpsycho: We have a new cheapest ev, gwm just knocked $5k off the ora bringing it down to $42990 before rebates, so $35,975+orc after rebate.
Weird looking thing but definitely down in to the realms of affordable now.
Different folks have different ideas about what affordable means.
You obviously think that $36k is affordable, but it would be close to twice as much as I've ever paid for a car, and I've owned about a dozen over the years.
Google says the median price for a second hand car on TradeMe in 2022 was about $14k, so let's guess at $16k this year.
That's the sort of money most people pay, so I guess that makes it affordable
$36k affordable? yeah ... nah

"I first realised something was wrong because I suddenly got warning lights. Within 60 seconds I had nine warning lights. I went to pull over and put my foot on the brake and nothing happened.
"I tried the park button, engine off button, everything. Then it was panic stations because it wouldn't stop and everything was flashing.

Article has links to a few other very odd EV stories.
Nothing to do with EVs, really. This happens just as often to ICEs. It isn't a 'EV' thing, it's a 'computer on wheels' thing.
