Speaking of the LDV ET60...it's just dropped in price to $49,975 (including rebate).

Scott3: And their must be a decent chunk of private buyers who desire a ute for a specific purpose which is not impacted by the limitations of the eT60.

LDV marketing is probably not the greatest. Mostly what they're up against is buyers that want a fairly flash car with latest features and comforts and are not really trade ute buyers. Like you say, good for limited range applications like Westhaven maintenance, and local city work. Not enough range to cover most of the potential independent trade contract users. I'd guess they need to hit 500km solid for that.

Wow, if your job requires 7+ hours of driving every day and you're not actually a truck or bus driver, you're in the wrong job. Can't imagine there's a lot of profit in the remaining 1 hour a day you get to be a tradie.

From the blurb, It sounds like the dealer wants any remaining stock gone.... and they're  not likely gonna get any more...

"Mrs Stephens adds: “This acquisition’s timing meant that we are conscious of using the final months of 2023 to clear out some current stock to achieve a fresh start in the new year. It means that we will begin 2024 with a clean slate and with space to accommodate the exciting new models we have waiting in the pipeline.”"

Looks like Gavin Shoebridge, Ecotricity has one for a re-review of this week so LDV are pulling a few promo levers it would seem.

Or maybe have some inside knowledge of other EV ute offerings on the horizon. Geely's Radar RD6?? Be nice to see some real non ICE DCU options to hush the 'ute tax' critics.

Nah, its toast, .. and I suspect they might not even sell them, as you've got to wonder what the supply of parts will be like for a model that has less than 100 units in the county..

"Asked by Stuff whether the eT60 was in line for the chopping block, an Inchcape representative confirmed the news. In a brief statement, the firm said that the current inventory of heavily discounted eT60s in the country is the last we will see of the model, with no plans to renew supply."

Couldn’t work out whether this should go in the EV or espresso machine thread!

Looks like a nice outing. I see that Gav of Kiwi EV Adventures / Ecotricity just had a similar outing with an MG4 (I am guessing that is what that was?)

He is such a copy cat ;)

PS: This is a feature I really miss on the Tesla.

Having taken an eT60 for a test drive, I would suggest a price of $57K is more appropriate than the $80K it was launched at. It really is for company virtue signalling rather than being a truly useful vehicle. I liked that it was smooth and quiet compared to its rattley diesel stable-mate though.

BYD left an air fryer and a bag of potatoes in the back of the Atto3 when he took it out for the run-flat test. GG BYD looking after their reviewers.

And yeah, if Tesla ever offers a retrofit onto the Model 3 I'll probably go get it done. Having two cars with V2L would be twice as convenient. One car to keep it all going while the other car is driven away to recharge. Going to need it on 1st of November as it happens - scheduled power outage from 7-5, which is annoying enough except the shearer is due to be there to do our four sheep which means at least one of us needs to work from home that day. *Sigh*

Yep, we have the same base-model MG4 51 Excite as he’s driving in that review; I think I’ve one-upped him, though, with espresso oat milk lattes vs a tea bag tea, plus our view was a lot nicer!

We’ve decided to keep the MG in a narrower range of SOC than I manage the Tesla, which I’ll often not recharge until it’s down to 20%; this way, if we recharge at no lower than 50%, we’ll always have decent reserves for the backup power supply.

Gavin’s review was generally fair; there are a number of additional criticisms I and other drivers have pointed out - I’ve passed on quite a few to MG, as many could be fixed via an update. Here’s a classic: even when one-pedal driving is turned on, this doesn’t apply to reverse so when in reverse you have to use the brake as it’ll otherwise creep.

He did get one thing wrong in his review, though; the Excite does have a charging timer that allows both start and end times to be set, it’s just not that easy to find. This should be a basic standard, but then again not even Teslas have this! (But luckily can be fixed via Tessie or similar).

I just watched a couple of Aussie videos on the BYD Seal because it has been launched in Australia and there was one available for viewing in Brisbane.

The BYD Australia website has them available to order, but alas not the NZ website. Of main interest to me is the Aussie price. In round numbers (AUD)

Dynamic Single Motor Std Range (61.4kWh) $49K

Premium Single Motor Long Range (82.6kWh) $59K

Performance Dual Motor Long Range (82.6kWh) $69K

So translating to NZD that would be roughly $57K, $66K and $77K taking into account exchange rate and gst difference. Nowhere near the $100K the BYD NZ salesman ’thought’ the top model might cost here when I sat in a pre-production model a few months ago. It would appear that it’s only available in limited colours, much the same as the Atto3 when it launched.

Pluses for me are, it has a conventional layout with a drivers display (and hud) and the long range battery is still a LFP “blade” battery.

Aussie orders are slated for delivery Dec23-Jan24. So the rebate will be toast by the time it appears in NZ.
