Most people I've seen recommend the Tesla Wall Charger 3 for $850 (used to be $800): https://shop.tesla.com/en_nz/product/gen-3-wall-connector---7_3m

as newer car will use CCS2 connection.

To my understanding this wall charger is not intelligent compared to the Evnex or someother ones. I don't have one myself so can't comment.

A home 'charger' (EVSE) input AC current, with the EV doing the inversion to DC via the onboard charger, so CCS connection isn't relevant as this is the connection used for DC

charging. Type 1 vs Type 2 is more the question but AFAIK the only Type 1 connections for NW EVs will be the Japanese imported Leafs.

The choice of an intelligent EVSE vs a basic one like the Tesla one is more important for those with solar as the likes of an Evnex can be programmed to only use electricity from your own 'excess' generation.

Nice one! You will love the Mustang Mach-E!

I bought this home charger from Repco, it does the job quite nicely. I've set my Mustang to charge to 90% max (it's set up via "Charging Locations" in the car itself, so for Home it's set to 90%) as that seems to be the Ford recommendation. Last night I plugged in at 5:55pm with 77% battery, and it charged to 90% by 12:16am, so it gives me plenty of juice for my daily driving which usually uses only 5% battery.

If you're coming from a Tesla with FSD you might be underwhelmed by the "self-driving" tech in the Mach-E since we don't get Ford BlueCruise in NZ, but it's pretty much self-driving on the motorway as long as you touch the steering wheel every 15 seconds or so. I drove back from Omaha the other week on the new motorway and it basically drove me all the way home (or at least until I ran out of motorway).

Does the Mach-E not come with a 'granny charger' included?

Nope. You do get a Type 2 charging cable for use at public chargers, which seems to be fairly high quality, but I believe their official line is "granny chargers aren't fast enough for our liking".

Are the Mach-E RWD models on sale the ones with the LFP Batteries? Or are they the older versions?

This one does have an LFP battery.  Not certain if it is the same model though as price is ~$55k, not sub-50

Fair enough I suppose. It's pretty disappointing to plug in a granny (2.4kW) lead and being informed that it will take >24 hours to charge the car.

Never the less Benjip has essentially gone out and bought what is essentially a granny charger.

RWD cars built after May '23 supposedly have LFP batteries. Mine appears to be a March '23 build...

amazing.

"The cars are supplied straight from the Ford NZ compound in Auckland and have been registered by the distributor, so are effectively coming into the market via the dealer network with an ownership history."

So they likely clipped the ticket and claimed the $7K government rebate on these, :) - be interesting to see the registration dates

The Final wash up of the scheme is fairly telling,

the "Ute tax" recovered less than 1/2 of what was paid out.. it needed over $300 million of Govt money to keep the thing afloat...

https://www.nzta.govt.nz/vehicles/clean-car-programme/clean-car-discount-ended-on-31-december-2023/clean-car-discount-scheme-financial-reports/

While many brand's did register a heap of their EV stock as demo car's in the latter months of 2023, allowing them to avail the $7k rebate (perfectly legal as long as they didn't sell that particular car for 3 months after registration), it doesn't appear that ford did this.

There are only five mach-e's listed as demo's on trademe, and all with 4,000+ km which is consistent with demo use.

Here is an example of a pre-reg Model 3 with only 10 km on the odometer:

https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/motors/cars/ford/mustang/listing/4986167867

Note the 2024 registration year meaning no rebate eligibility.

Also note how registrations in the last couple of months have well exceeded that in late 2023:

Yeah the clear car discount (Ute Tax) was quite a mess. Predicting what consumers are going to do is hard, and we got it badly wrong. Pouring $300m into new (to NZ) cars is an appalling use of taxpayer money, and subsidizing private cars is the last thing we should be doing from an environmental perspective.

Should have had the system set up to have automated rebalancing of the scheme at monthly or weekly(smoothed) intervals, to insure it was genuinely self funding.

But the short duration (~2 years) it ran for was part of the issue. People rushed through high emission vehicle purchases prior to it's introduction (or the hike half way through), or deferred then to after it's removal, while Low emissions vehicle buyers did the opposite.

Scrapping the program with short notice (stacked with global economic conditions & EV RUC introduction) has absolutely screwed many EV importers. In this case ford is having to absolutely drop their pants on pricing to clear their EV stock.

There is no way a 198kW RWD Med-Large 5 seat SUV should be selling for the same price as a top spec corolla hybrid (103kW FWD), but here we are.

Seem to be mostly NCM, but there is some LFP

To check:

"Ford notes that if the eighth digit in a vehicle's VIN is a 4 or 5, it indicates that the vehicle is indeed equipped with an LFP battery"

If the car has a number plate, you can use that to find the vin via carjam.

As pointed out earlier in this thread, there is at least 1 LFP on the market.
