Enjoy it while it lasts. As you get used to it you will want it to be faster and you will then hear a near constant sound of cash rushing out of your wallet.

Friend just got an A70 (I think) Toyota Supra - hes stoked with it :) Luckily hes a mechanic so can save himself a few $$ while doing it up :)

I'd love to do up a car but the $$ stops me. And the wife.... ;)

Do a blog each step of the way for any work you do on the MR2 :)

From experience .. get it fixed as soon as you can. The difference in driving it, for me, was night and day. Sadly when I got it replaced, I'd already sold the car!

The car is so fun to drive, I don't even care if it empties my wallet. It will be worth it.

They are great cars to drive. Just don't push too hard in the bends because they bite back, very hard and suddenly, I found myself facing the wrong way a few times.

I know what you mean. I haven't ended up backwards yet, but the tail is a bit sketchy. It's easy to control on the edge, but I felt if I went any further I'd just end up with no control. Otherwise, if you're just cruising and you know the road, it's an exceptional ride!

Just went through the WOF process and passed with a clean sheet. Notes included 1 tyre on minimum tread, which is getting replaced immediately and a very minor oil leak from the cam-belt area.

Trim is falling off everywhere. It needs a proper clean and interior polish...Then I'll take photos for the world to see :)

I'm registered on the MR2 forums and will be becoming a paid member very shortly. I still feel as if I'm driving someone else's car considering I think my car has been through a few club member's hands. It feels weird, is that weird? Its also perfectly fine for a daily runner, but I would feel a bit embarrassed going out knowing my car isn't in immaculate show condition pulling up to a meet and greet. Maybe that's the wrong attitude, haha :)

I ran in to Westgate today and discovered that while it's better to get in and out of than a Lotus Elise, it's still a b****! Definitely need to lose some weight!

Fingers crossed! If too much happens to the engine, I'll just replace it. It's on the cards anyway. Not sure if gen4 or V6 yet though. They are both an option.

Funny you mention the blog. I will definitely start one! There is also very little about the MR2 on YouTube, so I'll probably be making either a feature film about my journey, or an episode based series similar to the MCM format. Being a mechanic would definitely help. I'm hoping to learn enough that I eventually only need them for all the super important stuff.

A lot has happened since last posted! I've taken in on a few road trips since, especially this easter with a 300 kilometer round trip and finished cleaning up the paint! It never skipped a beat and is shinier than ever!

A collective 14 to 16 hours was spent hand buffing oils back in to the paint before machine cutting and polishing. After the cut and polish, a sealant was added to protect it all and all of a sudden Mr.2 is shiny again! 16 hours might seem excessive, but this car has been quite the problem child with regards to paint. I spent 4 to 5 of those on the bonnet and a friend of mine (also in the MR2 club) spent about the same cleaning up the engine cover.

Couldn't be happier with the result! :) Now I just need to look after it!

New tyres are definitely next on my to-do-list as the back tread is getting a bit too low for my liking now.

I finally found a tidy MR-S for sale and bought it. So many I looked at had been molested to within an inch of their life and they still wanted 8k+ for them.

But I can see why there are so many go fast things done to them. It is _slow_ and reving over 3000 at motorway speeds takes some getting used to. I end up crawling along because I am used to being around 1700 or so.

That's exactly what I found with the SW20. Everyone mods the crap out of the engine in all the wrong ways, which put me off a lot of cars. The one pictured I found for $3,000. Plane stock standard 92' Turbo with gen 3 tail lights.

They certainly are...Unfortunately. I want to get some new mags, but can't settle on a pattern I like.

205/50/R16 As a result of looking more closely to find out, I think I discovered my handling problem. I don't have two separate brands of tyre. I literally have 4 different brands.

Left Front: Kumho
Right Front: Goodride
Rear Left: Maxgrade
Rear Right: Bridgestone

Some say 87W and some 87V. I have no idea what that means.

I feel dirty.

Those wheels look nice draviddavid. I'd seriously spend the money on new tyres. At the very least a matching pair on the front is imperative for safety. Better still matching pairs front and rear. And best of course is a whole set of four matching. I'd strongly recommend going to several tyre shops and asking for a quote for their best wet weather tyre recommendation in that size. Money spent on tyres is money well spent. Ps. Your car is looking sharp after a polish. Looks good.

that's the max speed rating - ie how fast your tyres can safely go (or risk blowing up if exceeded)

Totally agree re the all four matching. Even though the front two are totally road worthy, I'm going to ditch them all bar the best one for a full size spare and put new rubber all 'round. The pattern of these rims are growing on me, but I don't really like mixing and matching.

Not really worried about wet weather performance specifically. I don't go very far if I have to drive in the wet. If it's wet, the car stays under cover.

Gosh if that's in kilometers per hour rather than miles per hour, then I've put myself in a lot of danger recently. Why would they rate a tyre so low? :(
