The OP even left the door open for EVs on the first page, so I’d say the discussion is on topic, even if it varies from the title somewhat.
edit: apologies, it was page 2. Either way, it’s probably for the OP to say what’s on topic or not.

I don’t need to read back. I can guarantee that any thread that is started by someone wanting advice on a vehicle will have one of the usual suspects chime in within the first couple of pages with “have you considered an EV?” even if what they are suggesting is completely at odds with what is being asked. “I’ve got $25K to spend on a family car that will tow my boat”. “Have you considered a $50K MG ZS or a clapped out Leaf?”
Doesn’t take much to take a thread completely off topic. Reading the title sometimes helps get it back. If you want to discuss how temperature affects range. Start a thread on it because a hybrid that has 300km worth of fuel in its tank will have that whether it’s -5 or +15 degrees.
Please note, your inputs on EVs are completely valid and I support your passion for them, but they belong in the appropriate threads.
If the OP responded and said that an EV wasn't an option for them, then I wouldn't be here. Instead, they suggested that yeah, it's something they might be open to.

RUKI:
As for the "300kms worth of fuel" - Toyota Prime has 1000kms worth of fuel in it's tank.
The 300km comment was to illustrate that temperature doesn’t massively affect range. Not that hybrids only had that much.
My Camry Hybrid has a 60 litre fuel tank. So it will do just under 1200km at my normal consumption rate.

Sorry...I should have clarified earlier.
Either an EV or Hybrid is fine, although my inclination is probably a Hybrid in the event that I need to do longer distance driving.
A hatchback is probably okay for what I need, and budget, well, I'm not a rich man, so probably about $8k (not too much more).
^ and thats the key, finding an EV that works for people thats also $8k can be tricky. There are so few used evs around it basically means a leaf and you have to live with its limits.
Reducing fuel usage is a worthy thing even if it means switching to a straight ol hybrid. Hopefully in a few years time the obvious easy answer is 'buy an EV'.
Dingbatt:
Why is this being discussed in the Hybrid Vehicle thread?
There are numerous EV threads on GZ. Please stick to your lane.
Because it's essentially a conversation and conversations go off on tangents.
Nice pun though.

I am really sorry for my comment on EV range. I should have known it would start a war, and I should have qualified it with 'for my typical driving' - any discussion on vehicle range should include the driving conditions and driving style, especially EV.

We bought a 2018 Prius Prime PHEV with 2000km on it in Feb 2020 (thinking we were fortunate to buy it when we did). Has 45,000km on it now...averaging 1.9L per 100km. The 50km Battery is enough for us to drive to town and back (13km each way) on battery.
A few times it was so long between fill-ups.... I forgot what side fill it up on. I love the car....

A $8k budget puts some constraints around options. Used cars are expensive at the moment care of the pandemic.
With regards to a pure EV, all that $8k buys is a 2013 or earlier leaf, with a pretty tired pack (battery chemistry prior to 2014 degrades a lot faster). No good for going out of town, so cross that off the list.
A Hybrid is still a good pick in that price range. Fuel becomes a much bigger chunk of running costs at the cheaper end of the car market, so having something really economical is great. But at $8k you are looking at an older or high mileage car. Lucky Toyota hybrid have a good reputation for reliability.
Key options are:
Personally I would be chasing a cira 2010 prius lift-back, with moderate to high mileage like the below:

Really Rare find, but below is an a NZ New Prius C that fits budget, and push button start, so not easy stolen:

The Prius looks okay - but I'm also curious as to whether any other makers do hybrids, apart from Toyota with the Prius line?
I used to visit The Clean Green Car Company from time to time when they still existed, and they had a good range of hybrids apart from Toyota (and - from memory - a few EVs), but they're long gone now.

I assume you mean you were curious about whether other makers do hybrids, as a number of us have provided answers to this very question earlier in the thread, especially the detailed replies from Scott3!
