Nice Tuesday surprise, we have a commercial account with NPD and they emailed us to say Diesel is dropping 33c tomorrow for the period 15/4 to 21/4

Okay, something really weird is going on now. The Diesel price for the week ahead just dropped another 0.62c a litre. Our pump price for the week ahead is $2.78 a litre

Maybe they're suddenly sitting on excess inventory with people cutting back on purchasing it.

That was my only consideration although the email did mention large drop in prices overnight.. Supply & demand would be my main thought as you mentioned though.

Could be, although the spot prices are absolutely rollercoastering at the moment. The futures traders must have whiplash. Can only last a few weeks longer before the only direction is up.

Gaspy has both diesel and 91 $3.20 at various stations around me - first time in a while that diesel has been down to the 91 price. Most of these stations had diesel at 3.80-3.90 a few days ago.  Your $2.78 is better than anything within 100km of me in Auckland City according to Gaspy.

WTI continues to trend down.

If the sky is made of water, which it currently appears to be, then yes, the sky is still falling.

But today, so are diesel prices.  Tomorrow?? Who knows.

Retail 100m down the road from work at NPD is currently $3.16 for Diesel but I'd expect that to drop a little. Our rate is commercial but the max charged on 8/4/26 to 14/4/26 was $3.73 so a 0.95c drop in 2 weeks.

Graph from stuff. Lines on right hand side are Petrol, Jet fuel, combined, Diesel.

Can't help but notice an extended downwards trend in recent days

We do have good stocks of oil in country / EEZ at the moment, given this, having only 5 ships on the water too us is not super concerning. But this is the time to watch carefully as Oil from prior to the war has all largely made it's way through refineries by now.

Interesting commentary from MBIE on this. I not expect them to provide this level of commentary. Clearly there has been a decision made to attempt to reduce concern by people watching the downwards trend.

But it is good news that there is a ship loading diesel in Singapore at the time of issue.

https://www.mbie.govt.nz/about/news/fuel-stocks-update

The latest update shows national fuel stocks remain stable with sufficient stock levels across petrol, diesel and jet fuel. Total stocks are lower for all fuel types since the previous update. This is the sort of variation we would expect to see when international shipping is operating as usual, without the current Middle East situation. Movements remain within expectations and show normal patterns.

While the total stock for diesel is down, the stock in country and within our EEZ is almost as high as it has ever been since the Middle East conflict started. There is also a ship currently loading diesel in Singapore and this will be on the way to New Zealand shortly.

We can expect fuel stocks in the country to decline over the next few weeks as fuel tankers are on the way to New Zealand to replenish them. This is normal and is how fuel companies manage their daily business, with fuel distributed around the country and then replenished by incoming imports. Fuel tanks are not kept at 100% capacity all the time.

Data will next be updated on the afternoon of Monday 27 April.

This report is a little concerning so far as ongoing supplies to NZ are concerned.

i'm not sure i'm concerned. Kuwait hasn't been delivering oil since the start of the war. that's why we have this thread.

$1/litre reduction pretty much matches this chart from ANZ Bank research last  Friday... Spot pricing went nuts when things really got going and Brent got close to USD $120 a barrel,  then we got hit with the TACO trades of "Will I bomb" /"No I won't bomb" and its settles back at around $90-$100....
