It really does, documented in the manual and numerous 3rd party sites as you see above.
I stand corrected then.
Crikey, yet another reason that EVs catch on fire :)

I saw an EV model today that I’d never heard of, looked up the reg and it turned out to be a Cadillac Lyriq. Big, boxy, ugly thing but I guess it ticked someone’s boxes.

They have a dealership on Auckland's K Road.

"Create a society that values material things above all else. Strip it of industry. Raise taxes for the poor and reduce them for the rich and for corporations. Prop up failed financial institutions with public money. Ask for more tax, while vastly reducing public services. Yes I woke up this morning to the insanity that controls our lives. Unbelievable .... although it is election year so somebody is plucking "red tape" and hoping it resonates.
Meantime I bought a new EV, one of the long range Nissan Ariyas that Armstrongs had discounted. Just waiting for the free money (good energy loan) from the bank to be approved.
And now I need to sell my 2022 Nissan Leaf, anybody in the market for a near new vehicle still under warranty ?

fastbike: Crikey, yet another reason that EVs catch on fire :)
On the way to work this morning I experienced an EV ICE that caught fire closing the entirity of Transmission Gully.
But I know so many people would assume it was really an EV closed Transmission Gully yet again and state "fake news" "the govt is lying to us" "EV's are scams" etc.
With how the world is going I am incredibly glad we've got 2 EV's so we don't have to care about fuel prices outside of supply chains that will raise prices as their operational costs rise.

Opinions are my own and not the views of my employer.
Saw a JY Air EV driving around, didn’t know that an airline company has started making EV’s too.
Just as long as Air NZ don't have a go.

They have a battery powered electric plane flying around. Quite an expensive project. No wonder they’re losing money hand over fist.

Then again in November 2025.(Which included slashing the penalty by 80%)

Now in March 2026, It has come out that recent consultation asked if the standard should be abolished.
https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/political/588668/government-considering-scrapping-entire-clean-car-standard
Ignoring the current timing and the middle east conflict (the consultation would have happened before this), the sheer amount of changes must make business decisions extremely difficult for the auto industry. Three large changes in less than two years...
The guts of Fleet average standards like this, is that auto importers who want to sell high emitting (and often high margin) vehicles need to sell a bunch of low emitting vehicles to hit the average (or pay a fine). Logical outcome is that importers increase the price of their high emitting cars, and use some of that money to cross subsidies lower emissions vehicles. I.e. Nissan build $15k into the price of an v8 Nissan Patrol, and use that money to cut the price of three Ariya's by $5k each, as to generate sales of the latter to balance out their fleet emmisions.
Scrapping (or watering down) the clean car standard, rewards NZ auto importers who were just planning to pay a heap of fines (Ford NZ?), while meaning automakers who have taken fleet emissions reduction seriously are now going to have excessive numbers of low emissions vehicles (can no longer run the cross subsidy, as they need to compete with brands like ford that no longer have to pay fines.
The Clean Car Standard is not without it's issues. Most notably, having a higher limit for commercial vehicles, Incl utes and some vans. Creates a strong incentive for say Toyota to push buyers to the hilux, rather than the Fortuner (SUV version of the hilux), even though the latter has slightly lower emissions. Not a massive surprise the Fortuner has been dropped from Toyota's NZ lineup... We don't want a situation like CAFE in the USA which incentives the sale of larger vehicles that what the market would otherwise demand. The move to larger vehicles can often undermine efficiency gains.

At what point is a 'car-less days' strategy considered, again? The added factor of EVs not relying on oil for fuel would surely see them exempted. That situation would definitely 'screw the scrum' in favour of EVs.

richms:Holy!! Transporting and storing 20L containers of petrol, probably by the same people who claim EVs are a fire hazard. Good luck with that strategy.
Whats the stock of 20l containers at bunnings looking like? They were sold out last time a shortage was looming.
