@fastbike there is a sub-forum for selling items. Don't list your car in this discussion please. Thanks

CrashAndBurn:

Am in the market for an EV. I drive 500kms weekly. I have 7kW PV with no battery. Planning to spend max 35K. Saw a 2023 Kia Niro Light (35kNZD with 59k kms) and a 2019 Hyundai Kona (27KNZD with 54k kms) Thoughts? Or other recs

You can also get a Tesla Model 3 for around this price - excellent vehicles, by far the best infotainment systems and no real servicing requirement.

I've got a 2023 ZS EV with 82,000km on it for sale for $24K which I definitely recommend above either of the other two. :-D

Model Y 2022 models are going for about 35K as well. If you are looking at a Niro that is probably a more comparable car. I think 35K for a 2023 Niro sounds expensive in comparrison.

That said, I would look for a car that at least supports V2L. Unfortunately that is not the Model Y.

New dilemma. Would you buy a brand new MG ZS for 30K or a 3 year old Polestar 2 SRSM with 60k kms and balance of warranty?

No brainer. The P2. A $70K car that someone else has paid the big depreciation hit on.

Ask seller to provide a High Voltage Battery State of Health Certificate which they can get done at local Polestar service centre.

Perfect. That’s a great price. The cheapest MY23 I’ve seen is $34k.

Going to put a deposit on a Seal today, I think. Ever since wife & I decided to try a new strategy of trading in cars while they still work, it's been a question of when (in 2026) rather than if, for the Model 3. Since they announced the first strategic petroleum release this morning I think I might do that now, before there are enough urgent buyers that the dealers start raising prices.

Losing thousands of dollars trading from ICE to EV due to a temporary blip in petrol prices is dumb idea (the general populace, not necessarily you).

Given that EVs are still more expensive then ICE (although the difference is getting a lot smaller) I don't expect there to be 2 million buyers lining up around the block but there have to be more than few people who were already fence-sitting and this tips them over. As I said, for us, we were always going to trade in the Model 3 this year ... this is just the catalyst to make it this month rather than a couple of months later.

And that one probably was rebuilt from an insurance write-off. Which makes me wonder - are those OK or to be avoided?

Don’t touch with a barge pole. Almost impossible to resell after you have finished with it.
Turners are currently flogging a load of MY22 that have come off lease. Much safer buy for a few $$$ more.

A couple of weekends ago I drove my 2022 ZS EV (std range) from Wellington to Auckland stayed with a mate in Ellerslie for a couple of nights. Charged at Bulls, topped up in Taihape, charged in Taupo, topped up in Matamata. It was plain sailing all the way, very comfortable, and the stops were good food/toilet breaks. Doing it again in Nov to see Megadeth/Iron Maiden.

We had a 4 day power cut here recently. V2L was super handy!

Stop Press.

The new Tesla Model Y L announced in Australia and NZ a couple of hours ago does have V2L.*

Longer wheelbase, 3 rows of seats (6 seats total) bigger battery AWD $86250 ++ (so +$6000 on MYLR).

I also asked about FSD for HW3. Coming second quarter 2026 (apparently).

*I would have posted this in the TMY thread but it’s locked.
