CokemonZ:

If anyone is looking for a deal: 2026 MG ZS EV ZSEV EV Excite 51kWh | Trade Me Motors

I have just put a deposit down - approx 4 - 6 weeks to delivery.

These demo units apparently landed in 2023, and haven't been used so get the full warranty from now.

The reviews are good, the price is excellent, and they have 10 white and 3 black left as of 9am this morning.

You are buying second hand ones at essentially this proce.

I umm and ahh'd about a 62kw leaf vs this, and basically new, with the LFP chemistry sold me.

Not to mention the long warranty.

Dongfeng Box is the other cheap new EV to consider at $27k, but I feel the MG ZS EV is easily worth the extra money.

I cannot bring myself to purchase a vehicle that's named after a tropical venereal disease.

If I'm doing a shop in Warkworth I go to the Woolworths which has 2x 7kW chargers, which are free to use. As long as I'm there for at least half an hour I go home with as much charge as I started.

Wow! I can see I need to find some search thing and filter on free and fast! I think I've been over-relying on chargenet for simplicity. Is there a website or app with the required filtering?

I don't know why, but those chargers used to be visible on PlugShare, but they're not anymore. I don't think it was because of people coming and abusing it ... I never saw them both in use even when they were visible.

Plug share has it:

I think with the sale of the vector chargers to charge.net, and the end of the Jolt free charging, there is no longer any free, fast public charging in NZ. And for those around during the era of free vector charging, We are largely glad to see it go. In short the desire to get something for free, both caused long lines at those chargers, and deterred other entities from building charging nearby. It seriously limited options around auckland where one in a leaf could pop in and grab 10mins of charging as they had done more errands than usual.

Also free stuff seems to bring out the worst in people. numerous examples of feral behavior.

-----

AC charging the value is a lot lower (7 kW for an hour at 25c/ kWh works out to $1.75 of free power). Worth taking if you are their anyway, but not really worth a trip.

Some of them support 22 kW, so if you have say a BYD E6, you could get $5.5/h of free power. Still likely not worth it for most.

That said, saliva park used to provide free charging, and ultimately changed it to paid parking as they felt abused. They were fine for people to have free charging if they were visiting their tenants in the mall (or even just providing foot traffic past their stores, but people were going to the mall, and siting in their car for hours reading a novel while soaking up the free power.

Unnecessary. You'll feel better when you increase your knowledge:

Down to just 169 Leaf's on trade me. People are buying these like crazy.

I thought the user on here asking $30k for a 62 kWh leaf was being way too ambitious, but they seemed to sell it quickly.

That was me. I lowered the price to $29k and had no trouble getting $28k as I wanted it gone pronoto. Probably could have got another $500 if I waited but a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.

The buyer collected it on Thursday evening and I picked up my new Nissan Ariya on Friday. Just waiting to get a towbar fitted next Monday

It's probably that - CCS2 is different, I was not showing a lot of the type 2 chargers as I didn't have that selected as I have no cable.

Essentially anpr and parking metering can used for EV charging provision. That is a good innovation and somewhat encourages people to return to the vehicle, and move it if they can. Perfect for many parking scenarios and relatively simple to manage for parking buildings. Especially cost effective for use with standard power all day charging access at 10a or below.

Looks like we are going to follow Australia after all, and move to importing and using  dirtier fuel to lower standards. I guess that is the only solution tbh with what is currently happening

You could get creative and re-arrange the letters on the tailgate.

A friend of mine use to drive the only Ford CAFLON in Australia.  It looked suspiciously like a best-selling 6 cylinder family sedan.

You don't have many vowels to work with, but accept that as a challenge.

Yeah, not much to work with. But how about Fond Geng? Fend Gong?
